Excellent Service in a Quaint Atmosphere

Food was good here. You will pay for the food and service but not any more expensive than other high end places in the county. Apparently this place and Willows at the Chumash are the only two AAA four diamond SB County rated places. The service was great. The meat was really good. I suggest the corn fritter soup appetizer. A great place to try especially if you are staying at the Inn obviously.


No happy meals

Dinner salad was drenched in vinegar & oil, barely edible with cucumber slices. Called ahead to ask for 2 vegetarian entrees. Received sliced cucumber in 1/4 of plate, kale in 1/4 plate and overcooked spinach in 1/4 plate with teeny tiny potato slices in other 1/4 of plate. Very poor for price paid. We won't return.


Over rated compared to premier SB restaurants

Several ‘foodies’ from Santa Barbara came out to Ballard Inn for a culinary experience. Given the awards and ratings, we had high expectations. Maybe an off night, but for us the food did not live up to our expectations. This partly may be attributable to our orders loup de mer and vegetarian dish, but overall the food was not spectacular and the portions were small. Further, the vegetarian dish was pretty much a tapas presentation of no real substance, leaving the diner still hungry.

The Ballard Inn Restaurant is without a doubt the finest dining experience in the Santa Ynez Valley and possibly in Southern CA. My wife is a vegetarian and my benchmark of a good restaurant is how creative they can be when there isn't a vegetarian dish on the menu. The vegetarian dish that my wife was served would be enough for me to turn vegetarian as well. Chef Budi and all the staff at the restaurant could not be more accommodating and created several special vegetarian dishes each one more delicious than the next. My hamachi sashimi appetizer and the Arctic chard were equally delicious. Do not miss this restaurant when visiting the area.

The food, presentation, service, atmosphere, wine, everything was amazing. The server had a detailed answer for every question we had, let it be about beer, wine, the food or the establishment itself. She was genuine and sincere and SO sweet. The food was incredible, the presentation creative, and the ingredients innovative and well executed. The Chef is Japanese so there were dots of japanese cuisine throughout the dishes. We had a yellow tail sashimi with avocado and a warm soy-yuzu vinaigrette, foi gras that melted in your mouth, with vanilla poached pears and a port demi glaze , a sesame caesar salad to die for (who would have thought that sesame in a caesar dressing would add that perfect kick!), the best lamb chops I've ever had, great desserts and wonderful wine. The atmosphere was simple, elegant, and we were able to finish our dessert wine by the fire to free up the table, though she would have let us sit there all night if we wanted to. It was a memorable experience that made me want to walk right back through door and do it again!


Delicious and Elegant

I had the pleasure of dining here with some family (who've been raving about the chef, Budi, for weeks) recently and found myself "mmmmmmming" throughout each course! The Hamachi Sashimi with yuzu sauce (appetizer) literally MELTED in my mouth! Luckily my family loves to share so I got to try all of their entrees and each one was an amazing and unique blend of flavors...the kind that make you want to return again and again! Seated next to the fireplace with a bottle of Ken Brown Pinot (santa rita hills) made this experience one destined to be repeated! Oh, and our server was delightful!

This is a jem of a place- intimate dining room- outstanding food and service! We had our second dinner there last night. Well priced wine list covering all aspects of the Valley as well as a few outsiders. They have a small menu- 5 appetizers, maybe 6 entree choices, giving the kitchen a chance to focus and put out the most excellent plates of food. The asian calamari ceviche, soft as butter and simply seasoned. The ahi I was served was perfectly seared and crunchy on the outside- perfectly pink on the inside- and the nage served with it- I am unable to describe the sensation of it- perfect. My husband shared one bite each of his tamarind/honey quail appetizer, and his filet entree- the demi- glace on his filet was to die for. Please take the short drive to Ballard to experience the wonderful service and dining Ballard Inn offers!
