New name and new owner
Reviewer: John Dickson from Santa Barbara, CA
This location is now called "Jitters"

Like the place but they need to do something about the smoke
Reviewer: Concerned from Santa Barbara, CA
Smokers tend to use the patio in the coffee shop right near the entrance so if there's a wind blowing toward the entrance the place just becomes filled with smoke and for some can be quite nauseating. The fact that they usually have the two large patio doors opens with smokers right outside those doors often increases the amount of smoke that enters directly into the restaurant. Below is the line of Santa Barbara code relating to restaurants who are permitted to have a designated smoking area. I'm not sure Jitters does have the permit nonetheless they are in violation of the code due to smoke easily coming through the entrance. Here's the rule. Sec 37-5 (a) (1) (1) In the case of restaurants, smoking sections must be designated, the entire smoking section must be in the same area, and be located the furthest distance from the restaurant entrance, so as to minimize the chance of smoke entering the restaurant. Don't get me wrong i like the coffee, tea, and service, but this needs to come to a halt.

best coffee spot in town
Reviewer: alex from Santa Barbara, CA
Great atmosphere. All of the baristas are great, they are so friendly. Amazing free trade/ organic coffee and tea selection. Free wifi and student discount. Best place to set and read, study or meet a friend in town!

Love this place
Reviewer: Becky from Santa Barbara, CA
Java Jones is the best. ALL of their chai tea lattes are heavenly, and I have tried all of them without disappointment. The baked goods selection is good, but a little sparse at night. The music and artwork is always unique and fun, and it's a great place to study. Also a good place to go late at night, since they are open until 11.

good place
Reviewer: JT from Santa Barbara, CA
I stop by here every now and then. Its a chill place to hang out at, drink, read the news or what not. The service is decent. My only complaint is that its always incredibly hot in there. I don't know what the issues are with the heat but I totally avoid it during the summer because it just gets too uncomfortable, even for SB standards.

Spontaniously enjoyable
Reviewer: Joan from Santa Barbara, CA
This place is full of interesting people and antics are always abound. Just to comment on the last few comments regarding bad service, one might notice that both of the disappointed reviewers bought breakfast sandwiches, so maybe that's just not the best thing to buy from this shop. The coffee is better than every SB shop other than Reds, and it's open later than any other coffee shop in Santa Barbara (other than Reds on weekends, and shows at Muddy Waters). Java Jones has a constantly changing vibe which makes it always interesting to come back day after day and feel like it is still a new adventure.

Intellectual and Creative "Free-Fire Zone" of Santa Barbara
Reviewer: Buck Butler from Santa Barbara, CA
I've been going to Java Jones for years. For years I've seen many people come and go--in front of and behind the counter. It's been a pleasant refuge for me to relax, drink in the ambiance, and enjoy the cultural life of downtown SB. I've tried most items on the menu and find them satisfactory or better. The real reason I come, though, is to meet interesting people from many walks of life--the transient musican/grung artist, the intense Westmont or UCSB student, the international student learning English, the half-crazed idealist on a spiritual quest, the pre-doctoral student working out the final flourishes of his thesis, the addict in recovery looking of a sober environment, the LA screenwriter with a few hours to kill. I could go on and on. My only request is to let the place stay open until at LEAST midnight! On weekends especially, 15-20 people have to leave before the doors close at 11:00 PM when the night's just getting started!

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!
Reviewer: CINDY from SANTA BARBARA,CA
THE SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE! PEOPLE WERE RUDE!! BECAME OVERWHELMED WHEN BUSY, CRACKED UNDER PRESSURE. I CALLED TO ORDER A BREAKFAST SANDWICH AND THE GUY SAID "OK" AND HUNG UP. DID NOT ASK ME WHAT I WANTED OR ANYTHING. I CALLED BACK SEVERAL TIMES AND NO ANSWER. I WENT IN AND IT WAS NOT READY!! I ONLY HAVE 15 MIN ON MY BREAK, SO I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO WAIT 20 MIN TO WAIT FOR A BAGEL SANDWICH. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!

GREAT
Reviewer: Bethany from Sanrta Barbara
Totally great place to study or just hang out. The tea is some of the best I have and the expresso shots are always fresh (which can never be said of Starbucks). The food is amazing and fresh. Need a break? GO TO JAVA JONES! Contrary to a certain previous comment, the service is great, always warm and friendly. They are very helpful and well-knowledged about their teas and coffees. They are set up like a cafe so you leave your dishes on the tables and they promptly remove them. To reiterate, GO TO JAVA JONES!!! You won't regret it.

Delicious coffee
Reviewer: Simon Robitaille from Quebec, qc, Canada
I went on a trip to Santa Barbara and this is the place where i drank the best coffee. Every day was starting by a good Java Jones coffee.

RUDE!
Reviewer: Kristin from Santa Barbara, CA
The ladies that work in the morning are SO rude. For our job we have a break in the morning in which we go eat breakfast at Java Jones. When my manager and I walk in they give us the rudest looks, and talk to us at a bare minimum. All because we order breakfast sandwiches! We spend probably close to $30 a week there and still get treated horribly because we order food. I've never been treated so badly for doing nothing wrong. Thumbs down Java Jones.

Nice place, nice coffee, espressos way too small.
Reviewer: Blake from Santa Barbara, CA
Hi. I like this place, I like the coffee. I've been going here for 22 years starting when Cafe Roma first opened here. But I'm not happy that their "double espressos" are 1/2 the size of everywhere else in town. I made a youtube video about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qFo6mcssWU

Best coffee, best service. (=
Reviewer: Dennisse from Goleta, CA
As an experienced barista, I too tend to be picky with where I buy my coffee... and I have to say that this place is pretty darn close to perfection! The staff is friendly and the drinks are consistent... Additionally, I enjoy getting soy drinks (especially a soy cappuccino) and up until I started visiting JJ frequently, I had not found a single place in Santa Barbara that steams their milk correctly. (Yes, there is technique; no, it's not super difficult... I implore you to go to an unnamed green mermaid coffee shop and order a soy cappuccino... unless the barista really knows what they're doing, you're going to get foam that has probably been steamed more than once and/or it looks bubbly... yeah, it's NOT supposed to look like that.) In any case, JJ is my favorite place to hang out, read a book, and sip on my delicious coffee drink. As a coffee lover, I give this place two thumbs way up!

Turkish coffee got me all the way to santa cruz

GREAT COFFEE HOUSE
Reviewer: SHERRIE KAY from LAS VEGAS, NV
THIS IS THE BEST COFFEE HOUSE EVER. ATMOSPHERE IS THE AWESOME AND THE STAFF ALSO.

Way better than the chains
Reviewer: Rob from Santa Barbara
Why go to a chain when you can go somewhere with personality? Plus, this is the only place I'm aware of that you can actually hang out until a decent hour. Seems like everyone else is closing early these days. The food -goodies - is way, way better than Starbucks. Only problem is that they tend to run out by about 9pm.

LOCALS LOVE IT
Reviewer: Christina from SB
Forget about going to all the corporate chains! As a SB local, I love to go and relax at this wonderful coffee shop which has great coffee and teas, a great atmosphere, and free internet wireless service. The staff is always nice and can really make a great macchiato.!! Love it!!

Good coffee
Reviewer: Ottmar Liebert from Santa Fe, NM
My coffee of choice whenever I am in Santa Barbara.

The place for great coffee
Reviewer: Mary Jane from Santa Barbara
So far, this is the best quality of coffee I have found in SB, and it is consistent. I have had over 5 years experience as a barista so I'm a little picky and have searched around and finally found it... this place rocks. The staff are all nice with a few that are awesome. From my view, it's not the best place to read or study because the music is a little too loud for it, but if that doesn't bother you... and a lot of people don't seem to mind.

This coffee haus kicked some ass, I can't tell a lie
Reviewer: Alex from Goleta
The baristas really know what they are doing, the atmosphere is awesome..right next to state street--nice artwork.

Go with the Mo Joe
Reviewer: fritz from sb
Golly Gee, you've got it allmost...atmosphere,price and okee dokee coffee staff. So you can stay out of retail-coffee dinasour jail, you might consider the following: Starbucks is the standard, right? Just face. Deal with it blah, blah, blah. Now, if Starbucks is the standard, what makes me think, I can open a joe cafe next door and do well(make a profit.) I can reinvent the whole coffee experience-too expensive. I can educate coffee drinkers about what they should like, too expensive. Or, I can focus on Starbuck's weakness, which is...maybe it's too metallic corporate. Maybe it's too done. Whatever it is, you can make it too, right next door. Just offer the same sort of coffe with a "punch." And stop asking all those feely questions when I order, i.e., "Do you want strongtastingorstrongcafeinedoyouwantroomforcream? Just serve it up and go with the Mo and stay out of coffe house owners Dinasour Jail.
