Coffee Cat -- much better than Java Station
Reviewer: Rob Roberts
from Santa Barbara, CA
I used to hang out at Java Station but the surly help and confrontational management are a huge turn-off.
Coffee Cat is a great place to hang out, with a friend or a laptop. Good coffee, good food. The only problem is a shortage of tables at peak hours. Coffee Cat is my new hangout!

I work at the public library across the street and have probably spent $2,000 or more at the Coffee Cat over the last 5-6 years. Great inexpensive lunch, either the sandwich/drink/fruit for -what, $6.50? or the delicious and substantial crepes (#2 chicken with pesto!) with a little green salad (under $9). Very good hot and cold drinks. One that has rescued me on many occasions when a meal had to be missed is the Peanut butter mocha cool cat, which has espresso and milk and a bit of vanilla syrup in addition to the chocolate and peanut butter and ice. Casual, homey, friendly, often all the seats are taken. Tons of local free papers to read. Some outdoor seating, mostly local patrons.

Local and good
Reviewer: Nicole
from Santa Barbara, CA
The service here is wonderful and consistently friendly. I love the mochas and chai. The crepes are great and they have affordable lunch options. They have recently started making many of their own baked goods too. Also, it's a simple thing, but the iced tea is much better here than most other places.

SERIOUSLY THIS PLACE HAS A GREAT ATMOSPHERE...ITS A COOL CAFE...AND I WISH THAT WAS ENOUGH...BUT WHEN I GO TO A CAFE...I WANT COFFEE...COFFEE THAT TASTES GOOD...THE COFFEE I HAD HERE REMINDED ME OF THE OLD CRYSTALS OF MY GRANDMOTHERS CAN OF SANKA.

Best Staff
Reviewer: B.Norton
from Santa Barbara, CA
This place has the best staff of any coffee shop in SB. Friendly and accommodating, blowing away all the other businesses (Northstar, Peets, Jitters, etc). The only other coffee shops that come close are Java Station and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (in Montecito).

Nice place, good stuff, nice people
Reviewer: Glenn

The Chai is good here. The place is really nice and fashionable. The sandwiches they have here are really high quality. The pastries really good too. The people are exceptionally nice and are more "pros" than novices. All in all a great place to go!

It could be a great place...
Reviewer: Barbara

Great location, a lot of space, very friendly staff. Unfortunately coffee tastes awful (there must be something wrong with the way they brew it) and crepes are simply bland. I'll probably still be hanging out there sipping tea, but that's it.

Great Place to Hang and Grab a Cup of Joe
Reviewer: Jason Koivu
from Carpinteria, CA
I'm no great coffee connoisseur, but I've never had a cup here that I didn't like. The food has been tasty so far. I love the #2 crepe (chicken, pesto and capers). The only thing I didn't enjoy was a granola yogurt. The granola was soggy, but to be fair it was later in the day and it had probably been sitting awhile. The service is quick and attentive. There's plenty of seating and they don't seem to mind if you claim a table for hours on end. Laptops a plenty coat the room every time I go, and for the most part it seems like there's ample sockets around the place to plug into, with free wi-fi of course! Super place to study, chat with a friend, people watch, and generally just enjoy the beautiful weather...cuz 9 times out of 10 it WILL be beautiful.

Best Chai and Crepes
Reviewer: Nicole
from Santa Barbara, CA
I love coffee, but I love chai just as much (more?) and this place has the best chai. You can ask for "sweet" or "spicy" or a mix of both to get exactly what you want. They also make exceptional crepes as well as really tasty waffles at great prices ($3.95 for a fresh belgian waffle!)It is family owned and everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. If you're visiting from out of town this is a great place to stop for a snack. It's across the street for the historic courthouse, around the corner from the museum and one block from downtown State street. Note: crepe service stops at 3.

Friendlist cafe in Santa Barbara
Reviewer: Carrie
from Santa Barbara, CA
Great cafe, great location. Serves a fantastically rich, dense espresso (which I haven't found anywhere outside of Rome)in traditional Italain cups and saucers. Quick and friendly service, interesting clientele, great atmosphere, superb outside patio good for people-watching. Thanks, Coffee-Cat!
