never been better, 1/21/2016
Reviewer: Mariah from Santa Monica, CA
I liked the chai (hot). The food? Not bad. Good attention from the service. Comfortable atmosphere. I do not dine at the coffee cat often. I think about it all day though.

Great Location and Great Coffee
Reviewer: Dave from Santa Barbara, CA
Across from the SB Courthouse this spot has a central location. I usually get coffee. The coffee is strong and consistently great. I've tried the pre made sandwiches and think they are tasty and reasonably priced. I had crepes once and they were good. Complaints. The music is horrible 60's and 70's stuff that I have been listening to since the 1970's. Please update your playlist or leave out the music. Avoid anything retro or nostalgic. The seating in the booths is uncomfortable because the seats have craters from years of use. Please buy some new seats, it is gross. The wood tables and chairs are dirty and could use a thorough cleaning. I like the art and the general layout is functional. I meet lots of my friends here. An interesting group of people visit this coffee shop.

Best Lunch Deal in Town
Reviewer: Marla from Santa Barbara, CA
Best Lunch deal in town - sandwich, drink, and chips for less than $8.00 - And the food and drinks are delicious. Coffee Cat is a winner!

Alert, new hours
Reviewer: Suzanne from San Luis Obispo, CA
Coffee Cat now closes at 6 pm (March 2014). Which has been a bummer a couple of times the last 2 weeks when I would have liked to have gone there.

Coffee Cat -- much better than Java Station
Reviewer: Rob Roberts from Santa Barbara, CA
I used to hang out at Java Station but the surly help and confrontational management are a huge turn-off. Coffee Cat is a great place to hang out, with a friend or a laptop. Good coffee, good food. The only problem is a shortage of tables at peak hours. Coffee Cat is my new hangout!

Great coffee and service
Reviewer: Roger Berg from Plymouth MA
Great coffee and good peanut butter bar.

LIKE !
Reviewer: Chris from Santa Barbara, CA
I work at the public library across the street and have probably spent $2,000 or more at the Coffee Cat over the last 5-6 years. Great inexpensive lunch, either the sandwich/drink/fruit for -what, $6.50? or the delicious and substantial crepes (#2 chicken with pesto!) with a little green salad (under $9). Very good hot and cold drinks. One that has rescued me on many occasions when a meal had to be missed is the Peanut butter mocha cool cat, which has espresso and milk and a bit of vanilla syrup in addition to the chocolate and peanut butter and ice. Casual, homey, friendly, often all the seats are taken. Tons of local free papers to read. Some outdoor seating, mostly local patrons.

MEOW
Reviewer: Ceci Schiedow from Santa Barbara, CA
I love my coffee cat purr purr purr.

Local and good
Reviewer: Nicole from Santa Barbara, CA
The service here is wonderful and consistently friendly. I love the mochas and chai. The crepes are great and they have affordable lunch options. They have recently started making many of their own baked goods too. Also, it's a simple thing, but the iced tea is much better here than most other places.

WELL AT LEAST IT HAS CHARM
Reviewer: ELIZABETH from Santa Barbara, CA
SERIOUSLY THIS PLACE HAS A GREAT ATMOSPHERE...ITS A COOL CAFE...AND I WISH THAT WAS ENOUGH...BUT WHEN I GO TO A CAFE...I WANT COFFEE...COFFEE THAT TASTES GOOD...THE COFFEE I HAD HERE REMINDED ME OF THE OLD CRYSTALS OF MY GRANDMOTHERS CAN OF SANKA.

Best Staff
Reviewer: B.Norton from Santa Barbara, CA
This place has the best staff of any coffee shop in SB. Friendly and accommodating, blowing away all the other businesses (Northstar, Peets, Jitters, etc). The only other coffee shops that come close are Java Station and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (in Montecito).

Nice place, good stuff, nice people
Reviewer: Glenn from Buellton
The Chai is good here. The place is really nice and fashionable. The sandwiches they have here are really high quality. The pastries really good too. The people are exceptionally nice and are more "pros" than novices. All in all a great place to go!

It could be a great place...
Reviewer: Barbara from Goleta, CA
Great location, a lot of space, very friendly staff. Unfortunately coffee tastes awful (there must be something wrong with the way they brew it) and crepes are simply bland. I'll probably still be hanging out there sipping tea, but that's it.

Great Place to Hang and Grab a Cup of Joe
Reviewer: Jason Koivu from Carpinteria, CA
I'm no great coffee connoisseur, but I've never had a cup here that I didn't like. The food has been tasty so far. I love the #2 crepe (chicken, pesto and capers). The only thing I didn't enjoy was a granola yogurt. The granola was soggy, but to be fair it was later in the day and it had probably been sitting awhile. The service is quick and attentive. There's plenty of seating and they don't seem to mind if you claim a table for hours on end. Laptops a plenty coat the room every time I go, and for the most part it seems like there's ample sockets around the place to plug into, with free wi-fi of course! Super place to study, chat with a friend, people watch, and generally just enjoy the beautiful weather...cuz 9 times out of 10 it WILL be beautiful.

Best Chai and Crepes
Reviewer: Nicole from Santa Barbara, CA
I love coffee, but I love chai just as much (more?) and this place has the best chai. You can ask for "sweet" or "spicy" or a mix of both to get exactly what you want. They also make exceptional crepes as well as really tasty waffles at great prices ($3.95 for a fresh belgian waffle!)It is family owned and everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. If you're visiting from out of town this is a great place to stop for a snack. It's across the street for the historic courthouse, around the corner from the museum and one block from downtown State street. Note: crepe service stops at 3.

Friendlist cafe in Santa Barbara
Reviewer: Carrie from Santa Barbara, CA
Great cafe, great location. Serves a fantastically rich, dense espresso (which I haven't found anywhere outside of Rome)in traditional Italain cups and saucers. Quick and friendly service, interesting clientele, great atmosphere, superb outside patio good for people-watching. Thanks, Coffee-Cat!

Fun site, but only fair fare
Reviewer: Clyde from Los Angeles, CA
I've enjoyed the environment here many times, but the coffee selection is limited, the coffee is acceptable but not outstanding, and desserts are limited in choice and lacking in freshness and flavor. Very friendly service.

Great Atmosphere
Reviewer: ODOG from Santa Barbara, CA
Coffee Cat is a great place in a perfect location. It caters well to those that work in coffee house atmospheres. My only discrepancy with the place is lack of sufficient table space. They should really remove all those circular tables and have one long table. Everyone can spread out instead of balancing their paper, books, labtops and/or drink on those tiny surfaces. Give us more table space please. Oh..almost forgot, stay open later too.

I love love love Coffee Cat!
Reviewer: Michelle from Santa Barbara, CA
I can't get enough of this place! The coffee is always fresh and brewed to perfection! The crepes are FABULOUS! Rumor has it they are going to start serving waffles. Can't wait! The people who work there are friendly! They always make you feel like part of the family! Keep up the good work Coffee Cat!

Ohhhhh Coffee Cat....*sigh*
Reviewer: Olive from Santa Barbara, CA
I really, really want to like Coffee Cat, but I think they don't brew the beans properly. They use good quality beans, but it always has a burnt taste to me. I have tried the specialty coffees and just a plain ol' cup of joe, and consistently the coffee tastes awful. It is in a great location, lots of seating, I like the idea of supporting a local business, but I need to have something in return, like, GOOD coffee.

Go Coffee Cat!
Reviewer: Becky from Santa Barbara, CA
Coffee Cat rocks! They have a good location, nice atmosphere, and good service. I like that they have frequent buyer cards, and yummy sandwiches and salads. They also make a mean spiced chai tea latte! Support a local business that uses fair trade products!

Don't buy corporate coffee!
Reviewer: Laurabelle from Santa Barbara, CA
The coffee cat is where its at! They make consistently good coffee all the time and serve the most awesome crepes in town. The owners, Krista and Jason, are cool peeps who are struggling in this poor economy. Don't let them go out of business, becuase I won't know where else to get a decent cup of joe in this town! They have a great lunch special at only $6.50, including a sandwich, drink, and a bag of chips or piece of fruit. They also have some great bagels. I go there all the time and so should you! The staff is also cool and friendly.

Corporate Caffeine is For Terrorists
Reviewer: sharky h. towers from Malibu + Santa Barbara, CA
Oh, I miss my days wandering down from Arlington Ave. to grab some delicious coffee and/or cappuccinos. I've been all around the world and the Cat is where it's at. The owners are fighting the good fight and doing their part to keep the Santa Barbara character we know, love and see vanishing before our eyes. If you should walk down the street and go to those big brand houses of caffeine vapidity you should hang your head in despair as you have lost a bit of your soul and shamed your family name. Keep on keepin' on you crazy Coffee Cat kids. I'll be in for a double capp as soon as I can.

the reason why i come back here frequently...
Reviewer: C.S. from Goleta, CA
is because their coffee and service is consistently good! try their winter-special drink menus, such as the "caramel ginger spice latte". it's to die for :)

drinks rock, wish they had better food ..
Reviewer: J Simpson from Santa Barbara, CA
i love their drinks and their service is amazing! AND they are consistent all the time .. I only wish they had better food - especially their bakery items!

Consistently friendly, fast, and by far the best coffee!!!!
Reviewer: Casey Berge from Santa Barbara, CA
I work across the street from CC. I go there daily and their espresso and coffee drinks are by far the best in town. As a ex-coffee industry executive, I consider myself to have a superb palate when it comes to coffee. I also frequent other coffee houses but Coffee Cat always delivers! My drink is always perfect no matter who makes it. Unless you go to Starbucks, you don't get that kind of consistency anywhere else. They use Red Star Coffee's (a local coffee gourmet coffee roaster and another favorite) certified organic fair trade beans...that should say it all!

Good place to hang out
Reviewer: jason koivu from Carp, Ca
I've tried a few of their beverages, usually the sweeter, more foo-foo variety and they've been pretty darn good. Had a couple snacky type items and the crepe they do, which have all been tasty. But above that, the Coffee Cat is a nice place to sit and read, study or have a nice quiet chat. I like the location, being away from busy, conjested, noisy ol' State Street, but not too far away from a number of places I like to visit in the State/Anapamu area like the library, museum, courthouse (the tower gives you a great view of the city!) and some various shops. The only thing that needs fixing is the staff. They seem to be earnestly trying to do a good job, but whoever serves me always seems unsure of what they're doing. Maybe I just keep getting served by the newbie each time coincidentally. It's not enough of a problem that it would ever keep me from going though.

Really, really good coffee, and nice people to boot....
Reviewer: Bruce Cameron from Marina del Rey, CA
A nice little place with very good coffee, and I love good coffee. And the service was better than most . I know I won't visit Santa Barbara again, without a visit to the Coffee Cat.

Real coffee and real food for real people
Reviewer: Sophia from Santa Barbara, CA
If you really LIKE coffee and enjoy a delicious, quick lunch then please please please don't let the newly-opened chain "coffee" shops nearby steal your soul. Service here has never failed to be fantastic, the crepes are to die for and the espresso is the best in town...

Great food, good shots
Reviewer: Markus from Newbury Park, CA
My wife and I were there on 3/30/07 for a late lunch. After having picked two sandwiches, stuff recommended the lunch special which included a bag of chips and an iced tea in addition for only little more. The sandwiches tasted great and the green iced tea I had really refreshed. After lunch we had two espresso shots which were at the level of the food.

i love bagels
Reviewer: SOFIA GOENA from santa barbara, ca
Hi i am Sofia carlota goena and i think your bagels are the best i have ever had. see you again soon. you guys are the best coffee shop in the downtown location. thanks again, sofia carlota goena.

They already had my drink
Reviewer: BillyBob from Santa Barbara, CA
This review is for their espresso drinks only, but I will say they're the best in town. When I ordered my short, dry double capp for the first time there, they proudly pointed to the Cap Royale and actually made it right. That is SO hard to find in this town. Staff is always coffee-shop cool without being way too cool, also hard to find. Congrats and thanks.

ehhh...expected more
Reviewer: chee from santa barbara, ca
I was not as impressed by this coffee place as I had expected myself to be. Of course, I went on a Saturday morning, and the place was SUPER crowded. The pastries are from Arlington Bakery, and I got a pumpkin muffin, which was slightly oily and had really hard chunks of nutmeg in it. The tables were mostly taken and slightly dirty. The vibe of the place was cool, but the air was pretty moist, and I felt like I had a layer of steam covering me. Parking is also limited, so I'd recommend getting there early to avoid fighting for spots on the street (as well as inside).

This place rocks...has everything.
Reviewer: Sam from Santa Barbara, CA
This place has it all..excellent coffee, great food (try the crepes), fast free internet, lots of places to sit, cleanliness and a certain panache that other coffee shops lack. This is the best coffee shop downtown and only Goleta Coffee and Daily Grind are its rivals. Could use some more pastries through the day though.

AWESOME!
Reviewer: Amy from Bismarck, ND
I was on vacation (from North Dakota). I have also been a barista for 4 years now.. and this place was awesome! Everyone should go check this place out... if I lived there, that would be the coffee shop I would go to. Great coffee, food and service! If anyone is ever in Bismarck, ND- check out Boneshaker Coffee Company! www.boneshakercoffee.com

Best coffee shop in SB
Reviewer: Nora from santa barbara, ca
Excellent service (hardworking and dedicated staff and owners); exceptionally clean (unlike, say, Borders, which is always sticky for some reason); great place to eat lunch (can't beat the crepes or the lunch special). Very comfortable. Light, airy, relaxing.

My favorite coffee place...maybe ever!!!
Reviewer: Steve Marcuse from Santa Barbara, Ca.
This is a terrific coffee house with a sort of subdued big-city atmosphere about it...but, wonderfully, no feel of a franchise!! The owners are onsite, hardworking and very delightful people! I am a coffee fan and a computer fan and I can get both needs filled at the Coffee Cat...and the wireless is free...can't beat that! My favorite drink is a double cappacino and I use it as a standard wherever I go...the double caps at the CC are the best!!! Do I sound like I love the place? I do!!!

Overall Great Establishment
Reviewer: Coffee Junkie from Goleta,CA
I really enjoy the ambiance and ample seating at Coffee Cat. The owners and staff are polite and friendly. I recently discovered how delicious the crepes are too! However, the past three visits, the coffee has been horrible. I try very hard to visit establisments that are independently owned. I like the idea that this is local business and the owners seem like very dedicated and hard working people(as well as the staff). But I don't know if I can keep buying coffee that doesn't taste good just for the principle of supporting a small business. I have to get something out it, such as good coffee. I really hope the coffee is better on my next visit because I really do think this is a great place with wonderful service. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Where Harry met Sarah - - they are now married.
Reviewer: Joe Higgins (father) from San Francisco, CA
Romance began at the Coffee Cat when employee Harry Higgins met customer Sarah Celmer for the first time. Sarah frequently visited for great coffee, a good read and discovered the nice looking employee, Harry. The ambiance of the establishment started this wonderful relationship of these two students; whereby, they are celebrating their second wedding anniversery this July 23rd. The Coffee Cat logo cups and a logo T-shirt provide fond memories for them.

Homey, friendly Cafe with defects
Reviewer: Dick kaplan from Santa Barbara, Ca
The people, food, and coffee at CC are all first rate. But somehow, it's impossible to sit there and read a paper enjoyably. Maybe it's the cold draft from their windows and doors left open for the morning cold wind. Maybe it's the morning sun that shines in the eyes of all who sit at the booths or side tables. Maybe it's the inevitable mopping with bleach as you sit drinking the cappucino. Somehow CC just isn't a good place to while away the day. Sadly, since the owner and help are all lovely people.

my favorite
Reviewer: Charlie from Santa Barbara
This is my favorite coffee shop in town, with a great variety of drinks and snacks. But to contribute to the It's-It thread, you can also get It's-Its at the D'Vine Deli. Yes you can! So if you want an It's It with coffee, get it at the Coffee Cat. If you want it with a sandwich, go to D'Vine.

all praise the It's Its
Reviewer: lemonjelly from santa barbara
I see I'm not the only It's It fan. This is the only place I know in town that sells It's Its, for a dollar! Ice cream goodness, sandwiched between two oatmeal cookies and lightly enrobed in chocolate. Lots of seating space for solos and groups. And if you want to get noticed, do come here - you might end up in a Santa Barbara craigslist missed connection.

THEY HAVE IT'S-IT'S
Reviewer: Woolsworth Featherbottom from Santa Barbara
Anyone who knows the glory of It's-It's knows that they are rarely, if ever, found south of San Francisco. Coffee Cat carries them! Do yourself a favor and go there and have one...or seven. Your life as you know it will never be the same. Hopefully they'll start carrying chocolate and mint flavors too. Mmmmmm......

Best Coffee Shop in Town!
Reviewer: Andreas from Santa Barbara, CA
What can I say - this is the best coffee shop in town. The staff are friendly, the coffee is great and the prices - well it must be the cheapest I have seen! I am a regular who goes there at least twice a day and in over a year have yet to have a bad experience. The husband and wife team who own the shop work there every day and I am sure that is why the service and coffee is first rate! I recommend anyone to try their fantastics crepe´s - they are really good.
