Locals...don't miss out!

We had a magical dinner at Bistro Saturday evening. The view of the ocean is gorgeous, the food and service superb. If you want a special evening close to home but don't want to pay the overnight fees, hang out at the Bacara for the evening and you get all of the ammenities anyways! Don't complain about it being a bit pricey...what do you expect when there are Rolls Royces parked in the driveway (next to a Nissan Versa!) LOL

Limited Breakfast meny
Reviewer: Chris from Santa Barbara, CA
My wife, mother in law and myself went to breakfast here one day for no specific occasion, and everything was good. Nothing really stood out to be such a wonderful thing and the selection of items for breakfast was really limited. I have to say though that the server was very kind and caring though she wasn't always around. There are maybe four entrees but really feels as though only one of them will be ordered (all three of us ordered their Mediterranean omelette). All in all it was good just wish I had more to choose from.

Bistro Restaurant
Reviewer: nancy haskell from seattle, WA
the food is tasty, although the lunch menu is the same as the dinner menu and if you want to stay at the resort for your meals it gets really boring. Also, the service at the Bistro (July) was really bad, very slow...but we LOVE the resort. Everyone there is so nice and accomodating.

Great place!!

We are from Austria and we live in Goleta just a few month. We are very glad to found this place to have lunch on weekends in this great ambiente and atmosphere. The food - giant scampi with a special spicy sauce, Parpadelle with veal/sauce and for dessert the appletart with vanilla/icecream plus our selection of wines - is really amazing. We visited the Bistro now 10 times or more, everytime we had great experiences and we enjoyed. Ricardo is our special waiter.

Great food great service

With a view of the ocean, amazing food and wine, and exceptional service, The Bistro is a great place for any occation. I have been there for their buffet breakfast as well as dinner. The seafood was so good and the server was very knowledgeable. I think you usually don't need a reservation, but it's always best to make one. Last time I was there we were treated like royality. They will definatly hook you up too if you ask them.

Pretty Good

I went to have lunch at the bistro, when I was using a full day spa package, which includes lunch at either the spa cafe or the bistro; I went with the bistro because itís near the ocean. I had an appetizer of bruschetta, which was nicely plated and pretty good. Entree I had an ahi tuna club sandwich which was very very good, dessert was a peanut butter cheesecake, which was the best cheesecake I have had ever. Service was good but it was a little slow, I went to lunch at 12:30 and told them I had another treatment starting at 2:00, and I arrived back at the spa about five minute before my treatment. The spa is about a five minute walk to the bistro, so I had a cart take me there as well. The waiter was very attentive, but I good barley understand him since he barley spoke English.

The most expensive salad ever!!
Reviewer: yuridia leyva from san diego
I was excited about visiting the resort and the restaurant. I looked at the online information and it seemed beautiful and exciting. My boyfriend and I were travelling from San Diego, staying a few days in Santa Barbara and were driving to the resort for a nice relaxed dinner. We arrived and the resort looked better than I imagined. It was beautiful. We walked into the restaurant. I was not that impressed. Dinning and wining are two of my greatest passions in life. We were sat down. It took about 10-15 minutes for someone to approach our table. The server apologized and he procedeed to ask us if we wanted a drink. We mentioned that were really hungry. The server took the drink order and someone else stop by our table to offer some bread. The bread was cold and tasteless.Twice we asked for some olive oil. I guess third time is always a charm. We were then given menus. Creativity is not their forte. My boyfriend is a vegan and works as a chef in a well known upscale restaurant in San Diego. His options on the menu were dismal or none-existant. We mentioned this to the server and ask him to talk to their chef. Most restaurant have vegetables and we assumed that he would be able to come up with something. Our assumptions were incorrect. Before I go any further I would say that the whole meal was extremelly expensive and LOUSY!!! $85.00 for 2 salads??? The total bill was $263.00+ tip I had never had a salad that expensive and tasteless. We had to hit a taco shop and paid less than $15.00 dollars total for 2 whole meals. It's safe to say that we will never stay or dine at the restaurant again.

Not so much.

The food here is not great at all. I would expect more from a 5 star hotel. The service is not bad....but not great. First dining experience, the service was ok but the food was only acceptable. The second time, the service was not as good, we had to repeatedly ask for things, and the food was again just ok. Also, the hostess told us that there would be a wait when the restauraunt both inside and out was only half full at best. Then they lost our food ticket so we had to wait even longer to eat. Three of us left with stomach aches and diarrhea. We stayed there for three days and ate mostly at the hotel, so overall my food experience was sub-par. This was our second stay here at Bacara and both times were pretty disappointing.

Amazing

We have dined here once before and let me tell you this time we were blown away. Everything down to the last little detail impressed us. We have dined all around the country and have seen many wonderful restaurants, but the combination of the view, food, and service took the cake. We would tell anyone of our friends to try it.

Never had worse service in a rated hotel restaurant
Reviewer: David Simmons from Salt Lake City, UT
We dined at the Bistro while staying at the resort on the 4th of July and were terribly disappointed in the service. After waiting to be seated on the patio, we opted for a table inside. A buffet was being offered for the holiday, but after waiting nearly 15 minutes for a server and watching other tables nearby being similarly neglected, I finally snagged the first person coming by and asked if we had a waiter. He apologized and offered help, and ended up trying to add our table to numerous others. Food was ok -- the beef brisket was extremely good, but the service was beyond poor, which the waiter readily admitted was the case although no adjustment was offered on our very pricey tab for a very limited buffet. Similar poor service was found at the Spa Cafe the following morning. All in all, food service at this luxury hotel is truly poor in my well-travelled opinion.
