Trivia

Who wrote review #1?

The review system was added to the restaurant guide in 2001. Here's the first review:

11/19/2001 Codys Cafe - Easily the Best Fries in Town
Shari Falter from Santa Barbara
Cody's is a great restaurant "American" restaurant with a little of everything for just about anybody. I love their sandwiches and their classic American "comfort food" - pot roast, mash potatos, and gravy. Their fries are, of course, the best and the Rueben is top notch. (I haven't had the best of luck with their specials because I think they experiment a bit, but their regular menu can't be beat anywhere.) Try their ranch dressing.

Who is the most photographed person in the restaurant guide?

This honor goes to Sarah Latta who happened to work at three different restaurants at the time they were photographed as "Restaurant of the Month." See if you can spot Sarah in the staff photos for Tupelo Junction, Granada Grill and Elements.

Which dining location was the first "Restaurant of the Month?"

Beachbreak Cafe became the first Restaurant of the Month in October 2004.

What was the first restaurant added to the guide?

On Sunday, February 25th, 1996, I went to Stearns Wharf with my new $700 Kodak DC-40 digital camera (the first consumer-level digital camera that could connect to a PC). I took these pictures (below), first of the Moby Dick Restaurant and then the Santa Barbara Shellfish Company. Just under two years later both restaurants burned to the ground (ocean, actually) in the November 1997 Stearns Wharf fire. These pictures show how the restaurants used to look!

When did the restaurant guide first go online?

After a week of information gathering and picture taking, the restaurant guide went online Monday, March 4th, 1996.
