YEN CHING CLOSES, TO BECOME NEW CHINESE RESTAURANT

Reader Patrick sent a tip that Yen Ching restaurant at 2840 De la Vina Street closed on January 29th. I stopped by and a representative told me that the business was sold and that in April it will reopen as a Chinese restaurant named New Szechuan Garden or perhaps New Szechwan Garden. The exact spelling eludes me.

Yen Ching CAN’T close. They have the only decent egg fu yung in town!

Won’t miss the MSG. Maybe the new place won’t use it and we’ll not have to go to China Pavilion or over to 5 points.

As a kid loved Andy’s schmuck Wagon. And also Bonanza where Dennys is now on upper state.

No, no…NO! This is one of my favorite chinese places to eat, great service, good food. Ugh!

What MSG? I was never aware of any evidence of it being in the food. The food was very tasty for sure! Great Service and very nice people running it.

China Pavillion? Meh. (If you enjoy dropping too much cash for the gorgeous decor. Too Bad. Great Servers, though *the ones who have been there the longest*.) They DEFINTELY need to bring back the buffet they once had. AND the salad that once-upon-a-time came with the lunchtime choices.

SHANGHAI on Milpas has a superb and most complete menu (PLUS offerings for vegans/vegetarians) comparable yet MUCH more extensive than China Pavilion. Not oily at all – yet still completely tasty.
