RUMOR MILL

As you probably know, last year Amazon.com bought Whole Foods Market for $13.7 billion and quickly slashed prices on many popular items. Word on the street is that the store at 3761 State Street (where, in October 2009, I camped all night to successfully become Customer #1) will be doing a store-wide remodel. I’m told that, as part of the remodel, an Amazon return locker will be installed. Right now you need to go to Isla Vista for that which is not convenient if you happen to live in Santa Barbara. Lastly, I’m hearing that one will one day be able to order anything in the store for same-day home delivery. As always, this rumor might be completely false or a brilliant forecast of future events. Your call.

Unrelated to Whole Foods but there’s an Amazon locker at the 7 Eleven at State St. and Mission St. as well.

Amazon Prime users get discounts at whole foods now as well.

I’m still waiting for amazon to launch their meal delivery service using the whole foods kitchens to achieve rapid expansion quickly.

My friend works for Whole Foods SB, so I asked him if this was true. He said no. Amazon did send members a discount on a Turkey (giving them a coupon to take to the store) this past Thanksgiving, and that is the only case of receiving any sort of discount from Prime.

So, I am curious to know how exactly you get Prime discounts at Whole Foods?

My friend just sent me a text, the regional president is in the store today and confirmed to the employees that they will be getting a remodel in the Whole Foods SB. My source did not mention anything about the lockers.

I wonder, since it is already a limited space (I wish they would relocate to a bigger store,) if they will build out and do away with the outside seating area?

I will update as I hear more.
