QUESTION OF THE DAY

If you can help reader Jenneil, please leave a message in the blog.

Hi there,

I’m in a bit of a conundrum.  I love my Sunday Bloody Mary’s, especially with a pickled green bean garnish. Normally I buy SB Olive Co. version, but I recently found out they are looking for a new source for their green beans.  Do you or any of your readers know where else I can locally find some of my favorite drink garnish?

Thanks

Yeah, those green beans are great, aren’t they? They also come with the Jake’s Super bloody mary at the Mesa Cafe. You can buy jars of those green beans at Ralphs downtown, in the pickle aisle. You can get them in either “regular,” which is how they seem to be served at bars, and spicy hot, which are exactly as promised. They’re not cheap–several dollars a bottle–but are worth every nickel. I’m pretty sure other supermarkets sell them, too.

If you don’t want to trek up to the mesa, Cody’s Café in Turnpike center also uses them in their well and Jake’s bloodies. Some of the best bloodies around for a great price!

Pacific Pickleworks is a local brand and all their pickles are very good, they even have a Bloody Mary mix. They have a green bean pickle called Jalabeanos. I’ve seen a decent selection at Isabella and C’est Cheese. But check their website for more comprehensive info.

Pacific Pickle Works. Just got some at Fresh Market and they should be at Whole Foods too. Probably Bevmo.

There are tons of recipes out there. Google “pickled green beans” and make your own.
