APÉRO OPENS DOWNTOWN

A new tapas bar named Apéro has opened at 532 State Street, the former home of Verdé and Zia Café. “Our concept is the Apéro from Western Europe,” says owner Anthony Van Daele. “Francetoday.com has a great piece which entails the concept of Apero. We are placing the emphasis on our home made cocktails which have been getting some great reception from our guests. Both drink and food are something very different than what we get to see in SB and hopefully the people will love it. We will be doing a larger opening in the next couple of weeks once all the little things are ironed out.”

Verde and Verde 2.0 were under the same ownership. Apero is completely new ownership.

Stopped by to look at the menu and see what this next iteration of the space will be like. While it might have new owners, the same insouciant attitude prevails. As we stood and discussed the menu, staff continued chatting among themselves back in the dark cavern. Perhaps they will iron out hospitality before the grand opening, or maybe the ‘European’ concept includes indifference.

      Hi Chris,

As we are brand new we are still trying to iron out some of the issues. This includes the staff and the presentation they portray in representing the business.

We would love for you to give Apero a try and make sure to give you the best experience possible.

      Thanks for your valuable feedback!

Good luck with the venture, Anthony. We’ll give your place a try in a couple of weeks after the shake-down cruise is finished ;-)

Stopped by to look at the menu and everything looked so delicious! The staff came and asked if I had any questions and also gave me a business card. They were very friendly and the place looks great! I definitely plan on coming back with my husband.
