WHAT’S NEW AT NU?

This just in from reader Pam:

I saw out of the corner of my eye – and didn’t double-track to see more clearly because it was raining – but something is afoot at 1129 State – where Nu used to be.  Can you look into that?

A yoga studio is going in.

  2. John Dickson says:

Is this the first time since the 1970′s that 1129 State Street has been occupied by a business that is not a restaurant?

    • Jerry says:

Yes! Remember it well when it was Restaurant 1129. Was the place to be in late 70′s.

Always packed. None of the others to follow their act were very successful although I kind of like’d NU.

Such a great space and great large outdoor courtyard. Great memories but fading fast!

  3. Chaz says:

We enjoyed “1129″ back in the day – and we’d sometimes venture up State St. (where Cantwell’s is now) and drink, dine and listen to jazz at “Ace Diamond’s Teaser’s.”

Boy, a lot of alcohol under the bridge since those halcyon days (or daze.)

  4. Sam says:

Mismanagement of the space in my opinion. They could of strung along the old NU for the last 6 years collecting 1/2 rent at least, instead they booted NU and it sat vacant for 6 years.

    • Larry says:

That’s the theory. In reality NU stopped paying any rent at all for many months and was eventually booted out because of it. NU couldn’t afford the space, even at quarter rent.

  5. Charlotte says:

So that entire space is a yoga studio now? Those must be some expensive yoga classes!
