At the end of February local chef Brian Parks, formerly of Coast restaurant, launches a new food truck named “Georgia’s Smokehouse,” based at 3400 Calle Real in Goleta. I am told they specialize in Southern Smokehouse BBQ and American Comfort food. They have daily lunch and dinner stops and can cater private and corporate events. For more information call 845-4854.

I tried some of their food at the winter wine fest and it
was great! Can’t wait to try it again!
Where is 3400 Calle Real? Are they talking about near the Chevron station?
3400 Calle Real is listed as Earl Warren Showground; some
other food trucks rent this place as thier commisary.
Thought I’d mention they’ll be at the local roller derby season opener on March 2, 5pm, at Earl Warren.
First, let me say that I have been eating BBQ
coast-to-coast since the early 60s, and I attend BBQ competitions
whenever possible– I love BBQ. I had lunch at Georgia’s– I
ordered the ribs with sauce, hush puppies, and mac and cheese. The
ribs were cold, sinewy and tough. I ate two and discarded the rest.
Mac and cheese is a southern staple that is all about the cheese.
This version seemed to be comprised of a bechamel sauce with a
whisper of cheese. Cheesiness is the theme folks– this ain’t it.
The hush puppies didn’t bark at me but they were passible. They
attempted to make a version of Bob Gibson’s fabulous white sauce,
but it too, was lacking— not even close. You can’t expect to have
lunch at a five star BBQ joint everyday that will make your tongue
jump outa yo mouth and smack yo brain, but this is real rookie
stuff. I know some others have written glowing reviews, but I can
only compare Georgia’s victuals against the real thing. As I
said— This ain’t it. I sincerely hope that they get- it- together
and win me over sometime in the future. We need a great BBQ joint,
and I will try them again.
I keep seeing the truck in Goleta, look like they have a
location setup now at http://georgias-smokehouse.com/calendar.php
John just has to add to the food truck list
