Over the last decade I have been asked why I run an annual Santa Claus call center, and why my friends take the same photo every 5 years at a lake in northern California. Though much of my day-to-day activities revolve around writing about the local restaurant scene, I have never been interviewed about it, that is, until Matt Kettmann, senior editor of the Santa Barbara Independent, recently came knocking on my door.

Is the restaurant Altamarano’s on Milpas St. closed?
Sign in the window says they’re remodeling, but it seems a little fishy to me.
