The friendly folks at KEYT say someone is interested in turning the recently renovated Big Yellow House in Summerland into a restaurant.

I landed in LAX in 1975 and drove up to SB to go to Brooks. Just moved from New Jersey. I was starving and It was dinner time and I saw the BIG YELLOW HOUSE!! What a site it was. I stopped in and had a fine meal and a very cute waitress. I knew I made the right move!
I hope they do a great job with the Restaurant that served me my very first meal when I arrived in California.
I was there in the ’70s also but not as lucky as you – I only had a fine meal.
Chaz, Coming from New Jersey ALL Ca. girls looked cute to me!
Jerry, I was trying to be funny with a little “double entendre” on your comment. My waitress was actually very cute, too!
Got it! I guess “had” could be read that way! No such luck.
I thought the new owner was renovating the space for small shops. Guess all those deals fell thru? Market must be really tough.
I remember going there on special occasions (back in the 70′s) where kids were weighed on a giant scale to determine how much their dinner would cost…it makes no sense now but then it was a lot of fun! And the waitresses all told the best restaurant ghost stories! Having dinner in a haunted house was very exciting! I remember the food being American classics, served family style. I am so glad they are finally doing something with that great old place.
Same experience for me too in the 70s. I doubt if they could capture the same magic but we’ll see.
And the spirits will be happy to have their company returned–they’ve been lonely.
I’m just wondering if they tore out the old kitchen thinking that they were going to make the place into divided store/office units.
