Last week I posted a rumor that Itsuki Japanese Restaurant may replace the recently-closed Baja Fresh at 7127 Hollister Ave in Goleta. Reader Stigand spotted a new sign now on display at that address confirming the rumor.

Interesting, a 50% increase in Japanese restaurants in Goleta with this place and Nikka opening.
“Yumie Chiba”–sounds like a delicious menu item. Great name for a restaurateur.
How does this place compare to the Goleta Sushi House? I went there last night and was disappointed.
Go to the other Itsuki on Calle Real near 154 to figure it out? I’m not a huge fan of either Sushi House or Itsuki(others like both a lot) but they are both decent for me. I like the Sushi Teri places more along with Shintori Sushi and for $$ Sakana. Apparently Itsuki has good ramen dishes…
Anyone that picks Sushi Teri over ANYTHING (besides maybe Sushi Ai, or Alberson’s Sushi) has questionable taste in my mind. What’s next? Burger King for best burger in town? I for one am super excited about this change. I am going to vamp up my Itsuki visits threefold.
Looking at the review of Itsukis and Sushi Teri on this site Sushi Teri is reviewed better so…? The Carpinteria one gets worse reviews though. To each their own I guess and depends what you order I’m sure.
You’re right Glenn. Re-reading my comment I was harsh and that’s not nice. I apologize.
Actually I am after what is good, and if this place is good with special items on the menu then bash away, I’ll probably go by and try the ramen to be in the know on this place. I usually get pho elsewhere, I remember I tried yakisoba once and it was good. Looking into this apparently Japanese while occupying China fell in love with the Pho and started a ramen trend in Japan. Don’t know what’s better, a vietnamese or chinese pho or a japanese ramen.
I was at Itsuki last night for tonkotsu ramen, then I saw this blog post this morning. Good news for ramen fans. Looking forward to their opening.
Maybe I’ve got to go there and try the ramen, apparently I’m missing out. How is a ramen bowl different than a pho bowl elsewhere?
Went by and it was too busy for them even to take a take out order it seemed. I’ll try again. Ended up at La Tapatia Bakery, wow! Good stuff.
I think Itsuki has alot more choices for cooked food than Goleta Sushi House. The sushi is also slightly better. For me, the two top sushi places are Arigato and Ahi. Sakana serves quality fish, but they went overboard with the sauce and fusion flavor combinations.
Thanks for your reply. I love Arigato as well but often don’t want to drive all the way downtown, pay for the higher price, etc. I should try out Ahi though!
I tried Ahi’s shoyu ramen for the first time today. I have to say it exceeded my expectations. It was still not in the same league as a real ramenya, but the broth was made from scratch, the chashu was roasted to perfection, and the noodles were al dente. I will go back to try the miso one in the future.
I’m looking forward to trying this place since I work nearby. My recommendation for best sushi is Kai. Just kidding its really Arigato.
