I am away on yet another vacation but this time it doesn’t involve sightseeing. I am on a mission – to continue a tradition.
Five friends from Santa Barbara (myself included) go on vacation in northern California every 5 years to the same place to take the same group photo – and we have been doing it since 1982. We started as teenagers and now we plan to take our 7th photo in June 2012, 30 years after it began. I am the guy on the right.
- We visit the same lake.
- We stay in the same cabin.
- We sit on the same bench.
- We sit in the same order.
- We make the same pose.
- We even make the same facial expressions.
- And, starting five years ago, we began wearing the same clothes.
As the years go by it gets more difficult to gather us all together. For the 2012 photo two are traveling from Santa Barbara, one from Antioch CA, one from Portland OR and one is traveling all the way from New Orleans.

This is awesome. Sounds like good times!
Such a cool idea- I like the different clothes that show styles of that area though. How fun!
I think the million dollar question is, where is all the skin?
You look younger in the 2007 pic than in the 2002 pic!
That’s pretty cool. The “same clothes” restriction might make it less interesting though; with different clothes you can see how fashion changes over time.
Everyone should do something like this. Have Fun!
Wow John, front page of CNN! Impressive!
