ANGRY WINGS

Reader Chris tells me that a restaurant named “Angry Wings” will be replacing Chino’s Rock & Tacos at 6530 Pardall Rd, Isla Vista. Here is a message from Chris:

There is a new restaurant moving into this location, and it is called “Angry Wings”. As the name implies, it will be a chicken wing joint. There is an ABC notice on the window that says they will be serving beer and wine. I know one of the owners, and he says they will be opening in July and will be serving a multitude of different wings, including wings so hot that even I wouldn’t try them. Who knows if they will do well, but they certainly have the market cornered for wing-only restaurants in the area.

That’s true not a one in the area. There is one in Santa Maria(Wingstop) for SB county, not sure where else.

Drunk college kids and wings are a match made in heaven. If they serve cheap beer and keep the food affordable as they most likely will I imagine this place could be a big hit. Crazy that no one has tried a concept like this in IV before. Wing centric places are a staple in most college towns.

The rumors are true. A wing joint will be opening shortly towards the end of the summer. We will specialize in a variety of wing flavors and heat levels. The restaurant will also be offering burgers, sandwiches, salads, and made in house ice cream. Our goal is to bring isla vista a fun, clean place to come enjoy good food at an affordable price. We will be using the freshest wings never frozen and we look forward to our opening date towards the end of August. Any questions can be directed to me at AngryWings.wolfe@gmail.com Thank you everyone for the support and I look forward to serving you all soon! Julian Wolfe Angry Wings Owner

Good luck Julian! I believe Dublin’s might be your only competition as they serve wings too I think but I’m sure the quality is not there, have never tried that place though. I think they have an all you can eat deal or something.

Lots and lots of places sell wings, you can get a bucket at most grocery stores too. I just can’t comprehend them as the primary food despite the possible varieties of sauces and seasonings. To me they are an occasional snack food so I can only hope there are some good burgers and sandwiches because I won’t be stopping in for just wings, I’m in IV and there is a lot more bang for the buck restaurants there. On top of that ‘angry’ food…does not sounding appealing. Don’t think it matters? Recall the incredibly short life of “Filthies” in IV. Closed in about three months. Anyone ever heard of the word appetizing? It has an inverse too. Food has to be more than a concept here. I can only hope for some decent BBQ. That is what sorely lacking in the area but I wish them luck.

HM-Thank you for your input on our opening restaurant. We are excited to inform you that we are planning on having a menu with lots of variety. We will have a full selection of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and salad wraps at no extra charge for a healthy alternative to the standard burger and fries. Our main goal is to provide a fun and safe environment where people can enjoy all the “naughty guilty foods” people crave while also having the option for a more health conscious product. We will also be featuring home-made chocolate and vanilla ice cream to be used in our craft beer floats and root beer floats for people under 21 years of age.

As per the Wings, I agree there are ample places to get wings, however, I can assure you I personally have tried 90% of the wings in Santa Barbara and Goleta and around 60% of them were frozen and lacking more than just the typical red hots seasonings. Our wings are fresh never frozen and we offer healthy alternatives to the typical buffalo sauce or butter-filled sauces. An example is our Caribbean Jerk wing tossed with fresh chunks of pineapple and cilantro. I truly hope you give us a chance and come by. We hope and plan to do our best to not disappoint. Also, we love input such as this because it allows us to directly communicate with our customers. We encourage everyone to take part in the building of our restaurant.

      Thank You!

My kids are crazy for GOOD wings! Homemade ice cream floats to boot? Can’t wait to take them to your new place. And I love the name…I understand the term “angry” is most likely In reference to “hot” in Italian there is a sauce arrabiata, referring to “hot and spicy” not pissed off and not off putting at all. Best of luck to you Julian!

You have obviously never been to a Buffalo Wild Wings, wingstop, or Big Wangs. There is a huge hot wings following of people who go to places just to eat wings for dinner and nothing else. Santa Barbara has been missing this for years. I’m so excited to see that a hot wing specialty place is finally opening. I only wished I still lived in IV. And it’s IV, the name doesn’t matter. If the food is good and priced well, they will come no matter what the name of the restaurant is.

My friends and I have driven all the way to Oxnard from Isla Vista JUST for wings (Buffalo Wild Wings) because there are no decent wings anywhere in SB/IV. YAY!! College kids do love wings, and loads of us cannot wait for this place to move into IV. Welcome!! :)
