On May 8th I wrote that Fresh Market might replace Scolari’s at 222 N. Milpas St. Reader James says that information on Fresh Market’s web site indicates they are opening a location in Santa Barbara:

Looks like the Fresh Market taking over Scolaris might be correct. They have a “coming soon” to Santa Barbara item on their website.

My friend went this morning to the grand opening and said it was packed. She waited over 20 minutes in line after spending 45 minutes shopping. She was also informed that the 2nd location will open in the building next to Zodos in 2 months.

ya sooo.. if they do come to that location.. its a bit awkward with the competing names of stores
Fresh Market is excellent – best market I have ever shopped in – far better than Whole Foods. Just returned from a visit with family on East Coast during which I visited a nearby Fresh Market several times. I know that ths is an East Coast Company as I grew up on the east coast, but visited their website in any case hoping for news of a West Coast expansion. I was pleasantly surprised to find an “announced lease” in Santa Barbara. I live in Malibu, but will probably be making the occasional trip to SB to visit the Fresh Market (and a few wineries also).
