This just in from Scarlett Begonia at 11 W. Victoria St.:

Hey John,

Scarlett Begonia will be having a special Easter Brunch. We have designed  wonderful and whimsical children’s buffet and for the adults chef Ramos has prepared a special two or three course menu, including champagne, mimosas, coffee or tea.   I have attached a menu  for you as well… I have some special surprise for the kiddies, in addition to the Easter Bunny and egg hunts all around the courtyards.  With real eggs…no plastic!  Easter is my very favorite holiday, I’m looking forward to having my first one at Scarlett Begonia. I will be taking reservations for this day, and I highly recommend to call early.  Space is limited.

    Where’s the menu?

I think holiday menus are always a great way to fend off the doldrums of the norm. It is a good way to spark creativity and it seems that Scarlett Begonia has done just that. However, as with many “special menus” offered by local restaurants, having a fixed price is standard but mandating a 20% gratuity is not. No matter how much a menu is or what the occasion or who comes in, there should never be an auto-grat placed on a bill unless it is for large groups. I can understand in very high-end places or for certain dinners with a high dollar amount but for this, it just doesn’t seem to fit.
