BACKYARD BOWLS COMING TO LA CUMBRE PLAZA

Acai bowl & smoothie specialist Backyard Bowls will be opening a third location this September. While enjoying an “Island Bowl” at Backyard Bowls downtown at 331 Motor Way (next to SB RoCo) I spoke with co-owner Dan Goddard who told me he just signed a lease in La Cumbre Plaza for the corner space between Panda Express and Vons. Goddard and co-owner Peter Heth opened their second location at 5668 Calle Real in Goleta last December 4th. Panera Bread plans to open at the opposite end of the same La Cumbre Plaza complex later this year, next to Baja Fresh.

“Bowls”…I guess we’re done with smoothies, moved past cupcakes and tired of yogurt?

Awesome! This is the first bit of good news coming out of La Cumbre Plaza in a long time. As an upper state street dweller who wants more worthwhile establishments to walk to in La Cumbre Plaza, this is welcome news. I was just at the downtown one myself on Memorial Day.

I love their bowls but they need to be more consistent with the portion sizes. It seems as though the bowls in Goleta seem to skimp more than the original location off of State Street.

This IS good news….I am a fan, no wait, an addict… I think they put heroin in the mix, it’s that addictive, but hey, what a healthy addiction to have!! Can’t wait!
