FORMER BREWCO SITE TO BECOME EVENTS CENTER

Local restaurant manager Warren Butler plans to open a meeting and events center April 1 at the former site of the Downtown Brewing Co. at 3744 State St which closed February 2010. He recently signed the lease and tells me that it will be called the Butler Meeting and Events Center.

The Butler Center has two dining rooms, a bar, a lounge, and two patios. It is intended for meetings/parties/events and can serve 30 to 400 people (6,000 square feet). The Butler Center is not a restaurant and is for private events only.

Mr. Butler is the general manager of the Marmalade Cafe in La Cumbre Plaza. Food and beverages at the Butler Center will be primarily catered by Marmalade Cafe but is open to all caterers with proper credentials.

It figures that a restauranteur who is so clearly out of touch with his customer base, would open a facility this town is really not that in need of. What a waste of a perfectly viable space…

Did the health department approve this place? I still have nightmares of this place and hope they invested money in Hydrex. But why invest money when it is going to be torn down in a year for housing? Downtown brewing company never paid rent and they could’t survive.

I agree with spank. An event-center? Just don’t see that as viable. That place should have been an Island’s. The landlord must have had no better options. Too bad.

It seems there is not enough parking to handle the peak use of event traffic.
