CAFE BUENOS AIRES TO BECOME GREEK EATERY “PETROS”

Argentinian restaurant Cafe Buenos Aires at 1316 State St. will soon tango off into the sunset and become the home of Greek eatery “Petros.”

The Greek restaurant currently has two locations: Petros 2860 Grand Ave in Los Olivos and Petros 451 Manhattan Beach Blvd in Manhattan Beach.

A representative from Petros Los Olivos tells me that they will complete the transition to the new name, menu and décor no earlier than March.

Petros and Café Buenos Aires were the anonymous subjects of my “Off The Record” blog item on January 24th.

  1. Elena says:

Wow, I’m so excited about having Greek food in a classy place. Looking forward to their opening.

  2. Gill says:

I’m so sorry to see Cafe Buenos Aires going away! It truly is a unique restaurant, nothing else like it in Santa Barbara!

  3. Pam says:

Love the patio there…can’t wait for it to be a Greek restaurant. We’ll miss Cafe Buenos Aires!

  4. Jonathan says:

I tried their food at a wine industry event in the valley. It was very good. I’m looking forward to Petros coming to Santa Barbara. Although, it was nice listening to live music in the Cafe Buenos Aires courtyard. Maybe Petros can have live music (preferably not Greek).

  5. Kim P says:

Wow, delicious Greek food in downtown SB again, and with that fab patio? Yasou and Opa, that’s what I say…and bring on some wonderful Greek folk music, too! We’ll miss you Cafe Buenos Aires.

  6. Judy Pearce says:

Wally says, “Not true,” so what is the real story. Is he right or not?

  7. Finally in Santa Barbara! CelebrateGreece.com is based in Santa Barbara and Petros catered one of our DVD signings in Montecito and they did a superb job. The restaurant strives on quality and that is what one receives. Outstanding news!

  8. What a wonderful idea! Petros has the best food, cares about what he serves and will be a great asset to Santa Barbara! Can’t wait for the opening.

  9. Anne Wilder says:

Petros is one of my favorite restaurants in the Los Angeles area. The food is really special–especially the Greek fish dishes.
Please people–branch out and explore the Greek food and wine-don’t order chardonnay!
Really surrender to the Greek Island culture they provide and you will be rewarded.

  10. Shawn says:

The rumors are absolutely true. Renovations are under way. The Petros Santa Barbara grand opening is currently scheduled for mid-October. OPA!

  11. James says:

The rumors can’t possibly be true because the Independent published a story saying they are false!

  12. steven says:

We have been long time Petros patrons at the los Olivos location since they opened. Now that they are on State St in Santa Barbara we have dined their twice. The food is exactly what we expected, wonderful and mouth watering. The staff is friendly……suffice it to say we will continue to be regulars at both locations. For Greek food the only other one that comes close is Molyvos in New York at 871 Seventh Ave.

  13. SL says:

So did the SB independent ever formerly apologize to John on publishing the over the top ridiculous and insulting article about how Cafe Buenos Aires was NOT closing to be replaced by Petros? I always thought the SB Indy to be a B or C level rag, but that dropped it to a D teetering on a F. They should be embarrassed with the sensationalism, poor reporting, and cheap shots at John on that one.
