Santa Barbara > Dining > After Hours
No one would ever accuse Santa Barbara of being like New York City. For one thing, we have no skyscrapers and subways. And, unlike New York City, Santa Barbara starts to shutdown at about 1:30 a.m. (California law prohibits the sale of alcohol after 2 a.m.). Most European clubs don't even START to get busy until 2 a.m. So, what do the night owls do when it's late and you're hungry?

I found 6 places you'll likely find open all night. Carrows is Santa Barbara's only all-night restaurant, is just 2 blocks off of State Street and is always ready to greet early morning diners. And you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner any time. Sharing the same parking lot as downtown Carrows is Spudnuts donuts. You can get your sugar-munchie fix here any time, day or night. Or, if you're in the mood for donuts and find yourself on the east side of town, you'll always find Winchell's donuts ready to load you up with carbs.

Hot Spots, near Stearns Wharf on lower State Street, offers a quiet coffee & study zone with a patio where you can enjoy the nearby ocean breeze. Grab a book and a latte and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, away from the downtown club scene. Near downtown, and next to Carrows & Spudnuts is Ralphs Grocery with everything under the sun. They spent $16 million building this gorgeous palace-like market, so the least you can do is give them your $1.95 for that bag of Doritos you've had your eye on.

Now its 3 a.m. and you're loaded with sugar and caffeine. What's there to do with all that energy? Try pounding the lanes at Zodo's Bowling & Beyond. You can even pack in a few extra pretzels & pizzas while you're bowling that perfect 300. With video games, blasting music and glow-in-the-dark bowling, Zodo's can help you get that last bit of adrenaline out of your system just in time for sunrise.
