La Patera Lane, Goleta
This
is a lovely park for an early morning walk. If there's some
ground fog and the sunlight is peaking through the tall trees just
right it's almost magical.
For
the most part, this park is very, very shady from its many
redwoods, sycamores, oaks and eucalyptus. There are two open
fields, however, so sun-lovers can have their niche, too.
Some
of the picnic areas can seat 200 hundred and the ball fields and
playground make it a natural for large family-style gatherings.
Directions:
From the 101 exit on Los Carneros, which is about 10 miles west of
Santa Barbara. At the top of the ramp turn towards the mountains.
At the end of Los Carneros, turn right onto Cathedral Oaks. When
you come to La Patera Lane, turn right. The park is immediately on
your left.
Facilities: Picnic and barbeque facilities (some quite
large), restrooms, softball field, a volleyball court, horseshoe
pits and free parking. It fills quickly but there is also
on-street parking available.
