Fake Pho, 8/10/2010
Reviewer: Clay

I just moved to the area and wanted some Pho, unfortunatly this was the closest spot . I've been eating Pho for over 20 years weekly and this was by far the worst I've had. The broth was chicken broth out of a can with unedible meat. My wife ordered the charbroiled pork which wasn't grilled and probably not pork. service was just as bad with a young girl that forgot our appetizers and condiments with the Pho. After asking for them a third time we left . Need to close your doors or serve food that is at least edible for humans.

Have they changed ownership or something??, 7/28/2010

I have enjoyed their food in the past, but last week I had a very bad experience there indeed. I WILL NOT GO BACK. I ordered #10 Pho, which is what I always order. I know Pho, I love Pho, but what they gave me was NOT Pho. It was absolutely awful. The noodles were all stuck together in a big glopy mess, the beef was tough and dry, and the broth was milky and NOT Pho broth - it had zero taste and zero aroma - it tasted like congee. I asked our server if the regular cook had a day off or something and she said no. I started looking around the restaurant and noticed something odd...My friend and I were the only non-Vietnamese in the joint that day. There was a table of 12, and a table of 6 - all Vietnamese - who were being very well cared for by all of the staff, including someone who was probably the owner. Almost all of them ordered Pho. They all got real Pho - I know, because I could see their bowls and smell the broth. Maybe they ran out and since I was obviously not "family" they gave me something else, thinking I wouldn't notice?? Well, the funny thing is, I happen to be Asian (but obviously not the right kind of Asian), and I am a CHEF. They definitely picked the wrong girl for a switcharoo! I will never go back to this establishment again... they should have just said, "Sorry, we just ran out of Pho." I would have happily ordered something else.

Take Out that contained no food, 4/30/2010

I ordered a Pho bowl to go a week ago. The bag was duly delivered to me but when I arrived home there were no noodles or meat in the broth. All I had was broth, some bean sprouts, basil leaves, and chili slices. Since I live 30 miles away I was unable to return.
I phoned the restaurant and complained and the manager said he would void my debit card charge. Well, he did not void the charge and I ended up paying over $7.00 for a bowl of plain broth, a napkin, a fork, and a few bean sprouts.
Never order take out from here. I will certainly not be returning.

Pretty good... even for a real Vietnamese, 10/23/2009

Having been born in Vietnam and having had Vietnamese food my entire life, I would say that the food is fairly good and authentic. There's not a huge variety or selections (compared big-city restaurants), but what they have is very good.
You get top-notch 5-star service if you speak Vietnamese to them!!! :)

Big Improvement. Worth your bucks!

This place has been the ideal place for me to eat for a long time now and like restaurants, it has its up and down. Saigon Noodle house has improved 110%! the service is great, always on the move and asking if things are alright, etc. The food has improved also and kudos to the new plates they add in once in a while that isn't on the menu. I recommend getting the "Bun" dishes with any topping you want. There is a fresh salad right under the meal!

Total Turn-around

I used to not be crazy about this place but recently have been surprised at their improvement. The service is great. The food is quite wonderful. I had Pho about a week ago which was hot and flavorful. Last night I had grilled chicken that was full of flavor on vermicelli and raw vegetables. The accompanying sauce added to a flavor explosion. I totally enjoyed my meal and will be back again and again. Give this place another chance, they have improved 100%.

Great Food & Service!

I think the owner people are referring to with a bad attitude is an older guy that I have seen in the past. When I went recently(its been a while) a much nicer asian guy was in charge and was very nice. The waitresses were very nice also. So maybe they changed things up. The food was very awesome with lots of extras embedded in the food that make it work. The inside is very spacious with a nice wallmount TV to watch if you want. Highly Recommended. Ask the waiter/owner if you are unsure what to order as he recommended a great dish.

Mediocre Food, Bad Service
Reviewer: Lucas
from Santa Barbara, CA
This pho place has one of the nicest locations/decor of vietnamese restaurants in SB/Goleta. It's just too bad that this place has horrible service. The waitresses are all very nice but the manager is extremely rude. I came here with 3 friends during lunchtime rush hour and the entire restaurant could hear the manager yelling at the waitress who then came out from the kitchen teary eyed. The pho and egg rolls were decent enough but the manager was like a dark cloud over our lunch.

Love the pho/fried rice/egg rolls...
Service is a mixed bag, really. Most of the student servers are nice, but owner tends to be a bit snappy and irritated.
