delicious french bistro.., 8/10/2010
Reviewer: Ryan from Los Angeles
Great food, professional servers. We had a lovely dinner, per our server we tried the artichoke and the mussels then the scallops and coq au vin. We didn't order desserts but we were invited to sit by the fireplace to enjoy our coffee. A very nice place.

Best Brunch! a nice respite from crazy Fiesta., 8/9/2010
Reviewer: M.Kaplan from Santa Barbara, CA
Visiting from San Diego we were told about this place by the hotel we were staying at. We had an amazing brunch this past weekend! They have unlimited mimosa's and we delightfully stayed for almost 5 hours, we were the last ones there!!! The food was really delicious (I had Lobster Benedict, my friend french toast) and our server was on the ball about refilling our mimosa's the entire time. I'm not sure why others have had unfortunate customer service, but our server not only called us a cab but chased us down in the parking lot when my friend had left her new iPhone on the table (woops, too many mimosa's!). Stella's truly a gem!

Revision to previous review--good food and service!, 7/3/2010
Reviewer: Christine from Santa Barbara, CA
After sending the manager a message about the customer service issue (outlined in the previous review), I am happy to report that he has responded in a kind and considerate manner and was quick to correct the error. I am very impressed that a restaurant with such great food also demonstrated such admirable integrity. So, 5 stars for food AND service!

Good food; disappointing service, 7/2/2010
Reviewer: Christine from Santa Barbara, CA
My husband and I went there for my birthday lunch, and though the food was good--he had the steak sandwhich; I had the beef stew--the service was terribly disappointing! Our waitress was near impossible to get a hold of after we placed our order; she gave us the wrong amount of change after we tried to use our discount card (unsuccessfully) and didn't even provide a receipt showing how exactly she made her calculation. At this rate, we won't be going back there again.

PERFECT place for a quiet lunch or dinner, 6/22/2010
Reviewer: Liz from Santa Barbara, CA
Stella Mare's always suits my needs perfectly. Whenever I have family or friends in town, we go here because it's always intimate, beautiful, and the food is great. Make sure to ask about their drink specials- they have fun & creative martinis. I'm sorry to hear that past reviewers have had negative service- I've only have the best experiences with their wait staff. The manager has come by a few times in the past to check on our dining experience- always a nice touch! Oh, and their French Onion Soup is 'to die for'!

food good - service not necessarily attentive to issue, 6/19/2010
Reviewer: J. Upham from Santa Barbara, CA
Food was good, atmosphere good, menu good..........problem was - somewhere during our dining experience, my husband's glasses were tossed or taken off the table - we asked the staff to try and locate (go through trash, give us a flashlight, etc.]- they said they looked but seemed rather uninterested or concerned about the problem - 30 minutes after noticing the glasses were gone and after vocally sharing our frustation another guest said she saw them under a table that was about five feet from ours.............that was good news as it was a pair of perscription glasses.......still somewhat disappointed with the concern or attention to the problem from the staff.......still wonder where the "customer service" part of this dining experience was............

Outstanding Easter!!!, 4/7/2010
Reviewer: JP from Santa Barbara, CA
We had Easter Brunch at this restaurant and were absolutely blown away. We got our reservation time wrong and showed up a half hour early. But we were offered to sit in the glass atrium room on the couches while we waited and served mimosas. When seated we were given a private room and it was perfect. Our waitress, Lena, was friendly, funny and so accommodating, very professional. She brought us a surprise birthday dessert when we mentioned my wifes birthday. The food was delicious, though being a holiday it was limited. I'll be back to sample the regular menu. I've lived in this town for 11 years and never knew it existed, it's definitely on my list of great SB restaurants!

Oh what a romantic Valentine's Night!!!, 2/18/2010
Reviewer: Joelle Halin from Santa Barbara, CA
My husband and I have been dining at Stella Mare's for many years, and this was the most AMAZING experience thus far. Our table wasn't ready when we first arrived, but were provided cocktails & an amuse buche by the roaring fire (In the gorgeous Greenhouse)while we waited. In which was only about 10-15 min.The Chef was so creative, offering an exquisite 4 course menu that our waiter paired wines(by the glass)divinely throughout the evening. As always,a memorable experience that we will cherish until we return AGAIN!!And Again !!!!!

Mediocre Food and Chaotic Service on Valentine's Day, 2/15/2010
Reviewer: steven appleton from Santa Barbara, CA
Despite making reservations one month in advance, and confirming two weeks prior, I was called and left a message informing me that I needed to call back and confirm my reservation. The $65 fixed price menu included only two items per course, so I expected that they would be exquisitely prepared and served with understated expertise. We were sadly disappointed. While the ahi carpaccio and beet goat cheese salad were fine starters, everything else was found wanting. The mushroom soup was salty. The halibut was dry. The sauce accompanying the filet mignon was just off somehow. Worst, however, was the service. Plates were pulled only at the last minute to make room for the next course. The waiter did not serve the food himself. Bread and water refills had to be requested. I wish I could say something more positive, but it was a great disappointment. With so many other great restaurants in SB, will I ever go there again???

great ambiance but food lacking, 1/28/2010
Reviewer: Geoff from Santa Barbara, CA
we dined on a Wednesday for Jazz and found the ambiance and wait staff wonderful as usual - however the food was not. We both ordered specials, a bouillabaisse and rack of lamb. The bouillabaise was pasty like a paella and while full of seafood was not very tasty with a too strong flavor of Pernod. When questioned on the style I was told it is "classic" (I guess that means what they serve as classic in Marseilles is not!). The rack of lamb while cooked perfectly was remarkably un flavorful. The risotto was great but too little was plated as an acompanyment.

Lovely Thanksgiving!, 12/3/2009
Reviewer: Marie from Venice, CA
Beautiful and delicious. The glass room was stunning & the service was very welcoming and accomodating. The turkey plate had everything we could have asked for but unfortunately the prime rib was a bit too fatty, overcooked and sliced too thin (maybe we got an end piece?) but they happily replaced it with a fresh, thick, beautifully cooked piece of prime rib when we voiced our concern. They did a great job with our large group. I hear great things about the regular menu, can't wait to try it out when we're back in town!

Ruined our Thanksgiving, 11/27/2009
Reviewer: Ann and Gary Chew from Long Beach, CA
The food was far less than stellar. Like a cafeteria.... Everything was preprepared and over cooked or dry. My whole party was very disappointed. The wine and butternut swash where excellent. Everything else was bad; we left feeling swindled. Grade: F+ Never to return..... Feel free to right this wrong.... agchew2@aol.com

Good food and in a very nice setting!, 11/18/2009
Reviewer: Mike V. from Los Angeles, CA
Everyone for the most part was really friendly especially our waiter. Food such as the grilled artichoke and the sole were great! The greenhouse dining room is a beautiful place to eat. I went for lunch and would definitely be going back. Me and my Fiancee loved it.

GREAT FOR WEDDING RECEPTIONS!, 11/17/2009
Reviewer: Alma Rose from Santa Barbara, CA
I've sent close to 75 couples to celebrate their wedding reception at Stella Mare's (I'm a wedding officiant). They been consistently great and offer set menus for very little price. I've received nothing but praise from the couples. I highly recommend them for your wedding reception! Voted the most romantic restaurant year after year.

Great experience ! ! ! Lovely People ! ! !, 11/15/2009
Reviewer: Gail and Jane from Santa Barbara and Bigfork, MT
Visiting in SB, friends took me to Stella Mare's. We were warmly greeted and seated by a friendly hostess. Our table was wonderful, although it would be hard to imagine a bad table in this place anyway. Our waiter, Joaquin, was very gracious without being mincing. He anticipated our every need and quietly took care of us for the entire evening. Our dinners, each different, were nearly perfect. And our desserts were the just right ending to a fabulous dining experience. Would go there again in a red hot minute. Looking forward to my next visit to this restaurant.

Stella Mare's a place to love, 10/28/2009
Reviewer: patricia beaumont from santa maria, CA
I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of our cozy room for a baby- shower/family reunion. We had wonderful service, excellent food. (although I thought the lobster to be scant in my omelet which I actually won't attack too viciously because of the times.) Our time at Stella Mare's was delightful and our maitre'd was a joy. Our hostess was pure joy also; a great personality! Thank-you.

A family favorite
Reviewer: Dee Dee from Ojai, Ca
Our family has fallen in love with Stella's. We have celebrated many events and memorable meals at this lovely restaurant. From Sunday Brunch to an early dinner or cozy dessert by the fire we always think of Stella Mare's first. You must go and enjoy the grilled artichoke, Lamb which is perfect and save room for the warm chocolate pudding served in a cup !

great!!!

CONSISTENTLY EXCELLENT EATING EXPERIENCE
Reviewer: sayre from ojai ca
We have dined here many times and recommended it to friends. Food, service, and atmosphere have always been of the highest quality. Another plus is the low level of noise. A quiet conversation is audible. Try it; you will like it.
