DON'T Expect Authentic Italian Food, 7/26/2009
Reviewer: Jessica
from Santa Barbara, CA
When we arrived we were seated right away and did not even have the chance to sit down before we were asked what we want to drink, brought bread, etc. They were VERY pushy. However, after we ordered we NEVER saw our waiter again until they brought out the check. My wife and I decided to get white wine (not bad, but NOT cold) and pizza. We travel to Italy every Christmas and their Pizza was NOT even close to true Italian pizza. The crust was not crisp at all (you can't even pick up the pizza), they used way too much sauce (which they charge $0.50 for), and the pizzas are bland. The atmosphere is also not great...too many people are crammed into the restaurant. If you want good pizza I would reccommend Piatti's across the street.

Real Italian Food with Great Montecito Service, 7/6/2009

From the Pizzas and Calzones to the carpaccio and the pastas this is a great place for non-american italian food. Not overspiced, not too large a portion, just really the perfect italian middle point. But while being real and italian they maintain the highest level or service, never the need to ask for a glass to be refilled, never a hurried push to get out of your seat, never a rude comment, about as nice and as helpful as can be while still maintaining the great accents that they have. I had a table of 9 with 8 of the table being under 21, usually this sort of table would be treated like crap at most restaurants. However dinner went off without a glitch, everyone was happy, all went well! Do stop by and give business to one of the few reasonably priced locations in Montecito, run by locals with good quality food.

You can't go wrong.
Great food for all, uncommon choices and familiar favorites.
Service is excellent and international, always fun.
Killer tiramisu, rarely had better.
Great wines as well.
You won't be disappointed.

This place has some of the best thin crust pizza I have ever had. The salads are also wonderful. The service can be a bit slow, but it's a busy place.

Love Love Love Their Authentic Pizza , 1/3/2009

Via Vai is the place we go when we are craving authentic Italian style pizza. Our first trip was immediately after our visit to Naples because we were craving pizza. The crust is thin, crispy, and flavorful. Their simply wonderful margaretia pizza is still our favorite even though we have had their specialty pizzas. The bruschetta was a delicious smoky flavor and the tomatoes are deliciously sweet. The house bread and olive oil are tasty as well. The service is amazing. For our friend's birthday, we told our waitress it was his birthday. At the end of the meal, she arrived with a complimentary tiramasu and admitted that she wasn't going to sing because she's not much of a singer. Her humbleness was sweet and endearing. We look forward to many visits to come.

Great service, incredible food, and a light atmosphere. Their pizzas are a must have. I've been here with my wife and with large groups and the service is the same. Their staff is attentive to your needs and I'd highly recommend Via Vai for anyone seeking excellent Italian!

My family and I have been eating at this restaurant for quite a while now, and it has never disappointed us. It is always good and the wait staff is incredibly nice and helpful. We go there for all birthdays and whenever we have people visiting from out of town, or just whenever we want to go to dinner.
The specials are always delicious and different, and the regular menu is spectacular no matter what you get. I highly recommend this fantastic restaurant!

We visit S.B. each summer for our son to attend Soccer Camp at UCSB. Found this place by mistake July 2007 and fell in love with it. We can't wait to get back this July. The atmosphere is great for families. The food was fantastic.
Patio dining but you must make a reservation to dine outside as it is very popular.

Enjoyable food and setting....needs a couple of adfustments

Love the large Butter lettuce salad..profound if you ask for more olive oil and grated cheese. Pizza is tasty...and just like the thin ones in Europe...BUT...have gotten TOO THIN(and we love thin Pizza)-Please add a little more dough to make it nicely crusty instead of crumbly cracker-like. Pizza often comes not done enough...ask for it a little thicker and "medium well" when you order one. Mangement:-Please offer real litters/half litters of house wine for the expensive prices you are charging for them.-But congratulations for the fine job you have done over the years.

My boyfriend has taken me to Via Vai a couple times now, and both times it has been amazing. The food is delicious and the service pleasant and prompt. They are great about not bothering you during your meal, since it is the kind of place to go and get a bottle of wine with your meal and enjoy your date. I would highly recommend it!

Great food, cold service
Reviewer: Sabrina K
from Santa Barbara, CA
Food was excellent and pasta dishes were great and very authentic Italian. Not a kid friendly restaurant.
The wait help was very cold and unfriendly. Wasn't rude, just didn't smile at all and didn't seem to care. Never asked us once how I food was. Even when we left, we walked through the entire restaurant and not one employee said goodbye. So if you're ordering to go, it's great food and if you don't care about service then you're OK. Unfortunately that's just as important to us as the food itself so they have lost us for now. Hopefully we will hear better reviews from friends in the future and we may be willing to dine there again.

Efficient, Professional Service...Authentic Italian Cuisine

Passing through, I stopped in for a quick lunch but wished I had had more time to savor the experience. I will plan my next trip up the coast to be in Montecito mid-day with more time to really enjoy. Highly recommeded!
