OK Bagels, bad service, very dirty, 11/8/2009

Bagels are decent, with some fun topping options. Facility is not maintained at all, very dirty. The picture on this website looks incredibly different from the actual appearance which is run down covered in dirt. If this place was cleaner and had friendlier service, I'd be more inclined to eat there.

I love this place. When I went, it was in the middle of the day with no line. I had the super melt deluxe and it was incredible -- I think I have to go back again today. Plus the service in fantastic, the people here are the nicest and most personable! Perfect for my bagel fix!

I love bagel Cafe'. It truly is an I.V. staple. All of the sandwiches and even basic bagels are amazing! Even their coffee is great. The service and prices are really good. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. The Bagel Cafe' is a true Gem and I love going there. If you haven't tried it you are missing out!

The bagels are great and this is a great little shop. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because recently they have decided to sacrifice the quality of their bagels in exchange for moving people out the door quicker.
The 'toasted' bagels are barely even heated up- they are chewy not crunchy when you get them :( -- Not only this but if you ask them to double toast it to try to get a satisfactory temperature and texture they say they will but don't do it 75% of the time.
Don't sacrifice quality to rush your customers out the door.

They were out of the first meat I wanted. Do they stock new everyday like the bagels? Though the bagel I had tasted not fresh and on the hard side. I guess I don't get the draw for this place. The order taker was spanish with not the best english yet two college girls(who seemed a little annoyed for some reason, maybe they wanted to be up front?) were making sandwiches in the back. Only small seating outside.

an IV staple, this place has awesome bagel sandwiches, it's ridiculous. Everyone who has ever lived/visited santa barbara, IV, or goleta MUST go to bagel cafe, I promise it will be worth it. The Zuma is my favorite bagel sandwich, they have every combination imaginable!! It's ridiculous!

DUDE THESE ARE THE BEST BAGELS IN SB, hands down. OK someone posted its dirty(because every weekend his place is packed wall-to-wall with lines out the door for hours) and service is sometimes not quite as 5 star as the SO-CAL/Santa Barbara crowd is used to, but if you want sterile and generic go to einstien bros at albertsons, or perhaps the cottage hospital cafeteria. Maybe you got bad service 'cause you were being all rude or something...
Plus they have SB Roco coffee, better than 'bucks, javajones, or iv drip in my opinion. If they're out of cream or sugar all you need to do is ask them.

I know this is IV, and not to expect much, but this place is sooooo dirty! As soon as I walked in I notice the floors, the trash can and the bar area looked like it had never been wiped down - it just makes me think, what does the back look like? If they can't keep the tiny area in front clean, what does that say for the food prep area.
The guy working there was very nice and helpful, but he was the only one working - preparing food and handling money...so unsanitary...I felt bad and took the bagel I ordered and threw it out.
I am not a food snob or a germaphobe, but this is just nasty!
It is too bad, because the bagels and cream cheese are good...could be a great place with a little more effort.
Also, got a coffee - they had no sugar, the creamer was empty with only curdled sour milk at the bottom.
Hopefully the owner/manager will care enough to put forth a little more care into his or her business.
Bagel eaters beware....

is what I thought after I went to Bagel Cafe a few days ago. I've been an I.V. resident for over 3 years now and this was the first time. Absolutely LOVED it! I tried "The Bird" (turkey, red onion, tomato, and sundried tomato cream cheese on a tomato basil bagel)and it was a winner. I can't wait to go again and try their Melt menus.

I found Bagel Cafe in college, like many. My boyfriend and I graduated, moved into town and still came out on weekends for bagels. 16 years later, we're married and bringing bags of bagels home for our 2 kids and us. I have a friend who begs me to bring sun dried tomato cream cheese with me when I drive to SF.
Definitely my favorite bagel on this coast.
