Confusing menu - good food, 8/31/2010

We went there last night for the first time. I found their menu a bit confusing in that only tortas and salads were listed on the main menu (along with the various drinks and smoothies), and then a small breakfast/lunch/dinner flyer was tucked inside. On the flyer it had daily specials. We ordered the $4 burrito Daily Special, and were charged $6.50 each. They were good burritos, and they did not break the bank, but they could not really explain to me the discrepency. Lunch vs. dinner maybe?

Good food, but with an identity crisis., 8/26/2010

I have never been to their other location but was happy to see Los Tarascos in the Zodo's plaza. I was one of their early customers and continue to go there on occasion. I think they have a bit of an identity crisis and continue to be surprised each time I show up. They have strange torta and fruit smoothie combos. They also have a little display of Mexican breads that never looks fresh. Why is that even there? Recently, I went and noticed they were serving tacos. They have about six different flavors and the price is hard to beat ($1.25 /ea I think). The food is always tasty and feels like a cross between hole in the wall (El Sitio) and sit down (Del Valle Grill). I really like that they offer flavors you normally don't find in SB Mexican restaurants such as mole and al pastor.

Their Food Keeps Getting Better and Better, 8/25/2010

Luckily a co worker introduced me to this amazing, yet affordable, Mexican restaurant. Great location in Zodo's parking lot, they also have another one somewhere in Santa Barbara. The owners are personable and great! The other people that work there are surprisingly very friendly and sociable. The restaurant's upkeep and ambiance is immaculate; I don't have to worry about contaminated food, dirty hands, etc. My company uses them for catering on a monthly basis. Their tortas are phenomenal! Today I tried their soft tacos (carne asada), holy cow--I couldn't believe my taste buds! This place will definitely keep business with my company. They have a fan and loyal patron with me.

I work in Goleta so I have gone to almost every restaurant around here. But today, I made it to Los Tarascos. Firstable I was so impress about how clean the restaurant is. I was undecided what to order so I ordered a Licuado (like a milk shake but with fruits), I also order the Chef's Salad. I was so happy with the price and the high quality food. I guess I have found my new place for lunch.

Disappointing!, 10/27/2009

-Al pastor torta- I love al pastor! I'll judge a restaurant by its al pastor alone, and sadly, this place failed! Lets breeak it down - 1) The bread - "pinini style" I liked, it worked! 2)The avocado/onions/jalapeno/side salad - good and fresh! 3) The cheese - I would guess a low quality cheddar. 4) The meat/al pastor - very greasy, somewhat bland, and prolly the worst i'v had yet! Now, dont get me wrong, this place may have some potential. They have a few other meats, and they might all be great, but sadly i wont go back to try them. Conclusion - Order something other than al pastor, maybe the Carne Asada, tri tip or mole chicken. Also, I would have liked to see the option to order tacos as well, i mean they have all of the ingredients, all they need are some tortilla's.

Good Food and Service, 10/27/2009

Good food and Service. A little pricey but food is worth it. Also tried the torta "panini" (mole one) and it was really good. Their smoothies are good too. The "ratone" which is a word they coined themselves to describe their little cheesecake pastries are ok, a little too dry for me, kind of like a coffee cake. Plenty of indoor seating, kind of gets too hot inside though with a greenhouse effect in the afternoon. A much greater improvement over the Asian food place that used to be there!

I went into this little place not expecting much. I ordered the Carne Asada torta and it was melt in my mouth delicious. I will definitely be back.

After an 11 hour flight home, I was hungry for Mexican Food. Los Tarascos more than satisfied my craving. My husband and I couldn't decide on the variety of meats so we tried 3 tortas, the tri tip, mole chicken and another beef one (there were a lot more to select from) All three were delicious. It wasn't the traditional torta it was actually a panini torta. I can't wait to go back. Also we tried some filled pastries which were excellent. The crust was so soft and the filling not overly sweet. I'm definitely going back to try more items on the menu.
