Will not go again, 10/19/2009
Reviewer: James from Santa Barbara, CA
Im sorry guys but the food was terrible. I worked in restaurant industry for years and had a bad experience here. They forgot the cheese on the sand, bread was dry on the outside and soggy in the middle. Almost all of the sandwiches have bacon on them which defeats the purpose of a "healthy" spot. Find a new baker and thicken your balsamic if you are using it with a sand. Look at your menu from the perspective of someone who doesn't eat pork. Healthy food doesn't need to taste that bad, good luck. I wish I had something positive to say, but at least you can improve and get better

Silvergreens - Downtown writes: I am sorry about your negative experience. However, in reality, Only 4 of our 14 sandwiches have bacon on them so a vast majority do not. Also, At Silvergreens you can customize your meal so simply by asking for "no bacon" your problems will be solved. We have loads of vegetarian options as well!
best Belgian Waffle EVER!, 7/29/2009
Reviewer: Nancy from Santa Barbara, CA
We have dined here 1-3 times a week since they've opened. Love the soups the best, and the wonderful wheat rolls that are so sweet they don't need butter. Last weekend they rolled out a breakfast menu with THE BEST Belgian waffle I have ever eaten, and it comes with fresh blueberries, strawberries, whipped cream (with what appears to be a drizzle of honey) and some kind of raspberry sauce drizzled on the plate. The man at the register said the syrup was half "real" maple syrup and it taste like it - delicious! The waffle is dense & nicely browned (unlike those pale washed-out ones you get at other restaurants) and although it is small, it is so rich in flavor it is totally satisfying. (ie guilt-free @ only 394 calories). We weren't as impressed with the breakfast burrito only because there were too many potatoes in it for our taste, but perhaps that's an east coast thing. You have the option to add delicious turkey sausage, avocado, etc., so perhaps that would balance out all the starch. Enjoy!

Great location, service and food. , 7/11/2009

My boyfriend and I gave Silvergreens a try after this location opened up near our home and we love it. Every time we go in there the service is great and all of the different meals I've tried, i.e. turkey sandwich on baguette, make your own salad, spinich fettucine, chicken primevera... have been fantastic. I'm a calorie counter so having the information on the reciept is always super helpful for me. Everything has always been very fresh and I'm really impressed with how clean it always is in there.

Really Nice Experience, Good Food, 7/7/2009
Reviewer: Mindey Bradley from Santa Barbara, CA
We always liked the Silvergreens in IV, but we only tried the downtown location this weekend after talking about going for ages. We can't believe how great it was! I'm not sure what these few bad reviews are about. Our service was amazing. Everyone was friendly and since it was an odd time for eating (around 4 on a Sunday) they were quiet. Almost everyone asked us how things were. They seemed genuinely interested in whether or not we were okay and liking things. Our food was excellent, if not a wee bit on the pricey side for the fare. I ordered a turkey sandwich without bacon did a combo for about $11. Husband had a veggie pesto burger (which was suprisingly spicy, but very good.) The only under-par part was the handcut fries. They were delicious, but they got cold before we could even sit down and start in. I loved their cool nutricate receipts (loaded with useful coupons on the back) that had caloric content that was SO accurate it even took into account the calories I was saving by having my sandwich sans bacon. HOWEVER, I'd like to point out that once one is sitting down to eat, and reviewing their receipt might not be the best time to find out the caloric content of all their food. I'd suggest having all that stuff posted in a menu somewhere. It seemed a bit "after the fact" if you were trying to avoid high fat or going for more fiber. I mean, it was great to know, but a bit late in the game to tell you when you sit down to eat. That aside, we're looking forward to our next trip!

Silvergreens - Downtown writes: Thanks for the review and glad you enjoyed your meal and experience. For future reference, we do indeed post all of our nutritional info on both our website as well as in-store in printed brochures, next to the cashiers and by the entrance. This way you can plan ahead before you order. We look forward to your return visit and appreciate your patronage.
Missing Expectations, 7/6/2009

What a great concept Silvergreens is, but both of my meals there fell short. First time had Chinese Chicken Salad. Overdressed wilted greens. Friday eve went in for dinner. Black bean cakes were good, however spinach apple salad that came with, was once again overdressed and wilted and bad tasting spinach. Appeared to have been prepared earlier in day. Husbands burger was completely overcooked, dried out and fries, soggy and limp, like on steam table for some time. Sons, ahi pasta, had just a few strips of dried out tuna, a few vegie slivers and soggy pasta. He eats anything, but this was a struggle for him. Restaurant very clean, young man taking order was fine. Dishes on surrounding tables bussed timely as people left. It's such a great place for that location, and good to see emphasis on healthier menu choices, obtained from local sources, really hope that the food prep can rise above it's current state.

Silvergreens - Downtown writes: Thanks for the review Margaret and I do hope you try us again. We have just hired a new General Manager with an extensive food background so these comments will all be fixed/addressed immediately. You can also always request "lite dressing" or even "dressing on the side" so that it will be to your liking. We make everything constantly throughout the day so all is indeed as fresh as possible and not prepared in advance. As for the burger, you can request that medium rare to avoid being over cooked in the future.

no green in my salad, 6/19/2009
Reviewer: robert from Santa Barbara, CA
i'm sort of agreeing with candy's review below - my thai salad today was not as good as i hoped. while the dressing didn't bug me, i was really disappointed in the lettuce - all pale and wilty, the only green present was the extra spring mix (that pretty much you get from a bag) they threw in with the pale romaine. the chicken was ok, though a little greasy, but the bulk of the salad was not very appetizing. i'm open to coming back, but i do hope they work on the actual food they serve.

Silvergreens - Downtown writes: Since this review has been posted we have switched our lettuce distributor so the quality of our product is both improved and more consistent. We pride ourselves in the grilled, skinless, boneless, chicken breasts we serve (Shalhoob, a local SB company distributes this to us) so hopefully you will try us again and we can win you over. Thanks for the comment and please try us again as I know you will be impressed.

Ignore that last person.....Silvergreens' rocks! The food is amazing and it is also very healthy!!!!Maybe they want some greasy fatty food instead-not sure, but everything at Silvergreens' seems to be made from scratch and tastes awesome. I have been a huge fan for over 10 years. You gotta check it out.

Silvergreens is superb, 5/26/2009
Reviewer: Suzette from Temecula, CA
I make a point to visit Silvergreens every time I go to Santa Barbara. I was even more excited to see Silvergreens open up a downtown location! The atmosphere is outstanding and so is the food. I've been to the Isla Vista restaurant many times and have always been a fan of their delicious and health-conscious menu. My personal favorites are the Chicken Pesto MBT and the Mandarin Chicken Salad. Their breads are so fresh, and, for me, that is what makes a sandwich taste so scrumptious! With all the other overpriced SB downtown eateries, Silvergreens was priced right. You get excellent food for your money. I also loved that they have free Wi-Fi. Now, I can eat good food and work too! Silvergreens is simply superb and I highly recommend checking it out!

And with regards to the Ahi Burger....epic. So so so delicious. I came off a monster mountain bike ride, walked straight in to Silvergreens, wanted to order one of everything, decided to start with the Ahi Burger, and it was a feast. Super tasty and to me at least, a great value. Along with a strawberry shake, it was more than enough food. Very stoked about this place and plan to make it a regular spot. Thank you Silvergreens, the world needs many more restaurants like yours. -AB in Santa Barbara PS: Equally great people.

Clever! I had an amazing experience with Silver Greens today. I fully appreciated eating at this fine green certified establishment due to their delicious-nutritious food and eco-concious vibes. I cannot wait to go back and try out their happy hour! :-)

Please open a Silvergreens in San Diego!!, 4/26/2009
Reviewer: Heather from San Diego, CA
Over the past ten years I have visited Santa Barbara frequently to see my sister and best friend. I've been to the Silvergreens in Isla Vista and have always loved it! Now I am so excited there is one downtown, it is such a great place to eat lunch! Perfect during a day of shopping in downtown Santa Barbara!! I love their bread, the turkey/bacon/avocado sandwich is my favorite, and the green apple salad is the best! Plus my 2 year old loves the mac and cheese!! I was impressed to see they've expanded their menu, my husband raves about the burgers! Great job to Silvergreens in being a "green" restaurant, we only wish we had a Silvergreens in San Diego!!!!!

Great Food & Atmosphere in downtown SB, 4/24/2009
Reviewer: Terry from Los Angeles, CA
I went to UCSB in the late 90s and loved Silver Greens. I still love to come back to Santa Barbara and visit and am so happy that there is a Silver Greens downtown! The expanded menu offers so many new options. My favorites are the BBQ chicken chop salad and the California pesto burger! The service was exceptional and the atmosphere is one of the best you could ask for. I will definitely highly recommend it to any friends that visit Santa Barbara. The receipt that prints all of the nutritional information that is specific to my order is amazing for anyone that is health conscious and monitoring their intake. I will make it a point to visit Silver Greens whenever I get back to Santa Barbara!

Meh, 4/19/2009
Reviewer: Aaron from Santa Barbara, CA
I have been thoroughly unimpressed with Silvergreens. I've tried their veggie burger and a soup and felt like I had just been ripped off. The soup was okay but pricey. The veggie burger was expensive and tasted like nothing. It could really have benefited from some seasonings or some sauce. The staff seems pretty indifferent. On my last visit, I asked the clerk a question about a menu item that he didn't know the answer to. He looked through the menu but never was able to answer my question. The only things I liked about my experience were the pleasant atmosphere and the nutritional information on the receipt.

I love silver greens. I was a fan of the original in IV, but this was takes it to another level. The food is delicious and healthy. The variety is perfect and it is nice to see it serving local wines. The discount card is a perfect perk and I am truly happy that we have one downtown. Also totally a comfortable place to eat with friends or alone!

Great New Lunch Spot...., 3/14/2009
Reviewer: Crystal from Santa Barbara, CA
I went here for lunch for the first time with my one year old daughter and had the best hamburger ever! They also had a great kids menu, so I ordered the steamed broccoli for my daughter. The french fries were delicious, the prices were reasonable and the place was very clean. I will be back!

Putting the Silver Into The Green! , 1/26/2009

Brian Rocha is a name I encourage you to know. He's an incredible manager of the downtown Silvergreens who put himself through UCSB working for the Isla Vista location. He believes in great customer service and serving up excellence. I love the Thai Chicken pasta. I love the strawberry lemonade. I enjoy the casual atmosphere as I munch and loiter working on all sorts of business and charity pursuits. The design and interior of Silvergreens is really original. The fresh baked bread is a really nice touch. I have always loved Natural Cafe and now that Silvergreens opened I'm spending my money on Silvergreens. It's a brilliant concept. With the calorie counting information printed on every receipt you know what you're putting in your body. Visit Silvergreens today and please tell them JMike! sent you. Love it!

Excellent!!, 1/26/2009
Reviewer: Tar from Santa Barbara, CA
I first tried Silvergreens a couple weeks ago for dinner and was very pleased. First off, I love the decor - simple, clean and fresh - very representative of the food. I had a veggie sandwich which was just perfect with a generous amount of avocado and a delicious pesto mayo. The service was warm and friendly which is just as important as the food to me. I also love the fact that all of the menu items have nutritional information.

Love this place and love how they print on the back of your receipt the number of calories you eat. Brian the manager was great and walked around and introduced himself to each table. You can really tell they care about the customers and the food they serve. Great job!

Yummiest Spot in SB!, 1/13/2009
Reviewer: Christina from Santa Barbara, CA
I love this new Silvergreens. The menu and style of the restaurant are very updated compared to the Isla Vista restaurant. I was so pleasantly surprised to see it downtown! I had the Crispy Thai Chicken salad and Macaroni and Cheese. They offer two sizes in all the salads, so I got a half salad and a side. The Macaroni is wonderful (and surprisingly only about $2.50.) The menu says whole wheat pasta, but it didn't taste grainy at all. Very good!! There are signs that say free wi-fi. I would consider using my computer there, it is a pretty big place. Definitely will visit again! It is catty-corner to CPK on Chapala.

Silvergreens, 1/10/2009
Reviewer: Allison from Santa Barbara, CA
I had the ahi "burger" with a mayonnaise dressing they were passing off as pesto. It was $7.99 + $2.00 charge because it's ahi. When it came, all I saw was an oversized hamburger bun with tomato and lettuce so I opened it up, in search of the lovely ahi and to my chagrin/horror/disappointment, there was a tiny, over cooked piece of fish buried at the bottom. The fish that I had paid $2.00 extra for was almost as big as my Motorola Razr phone - same thickness but not quite as long. After all the added charges for a drink and side [for 2 of us], I could have gone down the street and had two very fine ahi burgers and some actual service. There must be something good on the menu but the so-called ahi burger is the biggest rip off in the history of SB. I won't be back.

Silvergreens - Downtown writes: I apologize for your negative experience and would like to offer you a complimentary meal so that we can prove ourselves to you. We pride ourselves in the value and quality of food we offer and am confident you will not be disappointed. Nice addition to downtown S.B., 1/7/2009
Reviewer: Len from Santa Barbara, CA
I had lunch there today. Food was very good. Cream of broccoli soup was excellent...as was the side of macaroni and cheese. I had a half of turkey sandwich....good, but needed a bit more turkey on the sandwich. And as the other reviewer mentioned, the place is VERY clean....spotless. Adding nutritional information on your check is interesting, and I hope they add one more piece of information...that of the number of carbs...which is not included yet. Anyway, this place is worth going back over and over.

My new favorite place!, 1/5/2009
Reviewer: Elena from Santa Barbara, CA
I decided to eat here because it was full at CPK. I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere of the place was very green-conscious but not in the 70s crunchy granola way as it is with Sojourners or even the Natural Cafe. This place was really cool and fun. Super clean. The food was really good with healthy portion size. I like that you get nutritional info on your receipt. I plan to go there often.
