Five satisfied diner, 4/16/2010
Reviewer: Michael from Santa Barbara, CA
For our weekly five-person family dinner outing we decided to come here for the first time and we were happy with the staff, very satisfied with our tasty meals, and impressed with the nice decor. We all ordered different entrees and everyone enjoyed his or her meal. We experienced none of the negative incidents cited by some of the previous reviewers. We were there on a Thursday early evening.

Delicious oysters on the half shell, fresh halibut ceviche, and tasty entrees.. plus the service was attentive but not overbearing. Our waiter was very helpful in choosing our drinks, apps and dinners as his advice was spot-on. I'm not sure why others had less than stellar experiences but we had a great evening and will be back. When the waiter found out we were locals, he gave us a discount card for our next visit.... which will be soon!

Shockingly Bad for a shocking price, 4/7/2010
Reviewer: Elisabet from Goleta, CA
No wonder this place is always empty! I called to make a reservation for 10-12ppl in the Terrace Room. I was told it was only for happy hour in the evening. They did offer their Private Dining Room... for $200 non including food! That was "room rental"? I just wanted a table for 10-12 at 6pm. So we showed up to "Happy Hour" & the place was DEAD... no wonder!! The food was salty & the portions were small. After their New Year's Eve fiasco I'll never be back!

Bad service, 3/22/2010

Two bad experiences in one week, don’t think it was a coincidence. Went Friday night for happy hour and dinner. Drinks were good, we asked to have our happy hour tab moved over to dining since we were having dinner. It took us 15 minutes to get a waiters attention then another 15 minutes to get us rung up since they couldn’t move the tab over. Our waiter didn’t even bother to give us our change back. We didn’t want to create embarrassment so we just went ahead and were seated for dinner. We ordered bread and butter and the rolls were hard as a rock. We got our main entrees and it took several minutes before our sides were delivered. After dinner we took the long walk downstairs to the ladies room. Makes to sense to have a million dollar hotel with no restroom in the vicinity. We told the busboy we would be back shortly. Our waiter rushed out to the lobby and proceeded to hand the bill to one of my friends in the lobby. She reemphasized that we had told the busboy we would return for dessert but were using the restroom. We then proceeded to return for dessert. Returned Sunday for brunch. We had to ask for waters, and they got my drink order incorrect. The champagne glass was dirty. We ordered our food and they forgot to put mayo in our hamburgers. It took about ten minutes before we were able to get someones attention to get some mayo. The waiter and manager were too busy dealing with a problem at another table. How ironic. Upon receiving our bill they proceeded to charge me for the drink I didn’t order. The manager came over to my table and proceeded to tell me that she personally saw them make my drink and that I didn’t receive the wrong order. If the manager had seen my drink being made, she should have stopped the waiter from sending out such a water marked stained glass from being used. Unless she personally tasted my drink she shouldn’t have interjected. Isn’t the customer always right? Upon receiving my bill after the discussion, the item was still on my check. Rather than making a scene, I paid the bill. This establishment doesn’t know the first thing about customer service, or team work.

unpleasant experience, 2/15/2010

Went for Valentines Dinner-we are local and eat out often in all price ranges. When we arrived in the bar-lounge we had to go back out to see if it was in fact also the restaurant-and then found a podium at end of the bar. We were then led through the entire dining room behind the bar and back out to the terrace room. Why? My husband eventually moved his chair next to me as the table for two was about 3ft long and 2 ft wide. The waiter said he had thought about that when he set up the tables for 2 but wanted to center it in the window (looked at a hallway) Salad had too much only flavor was oranges and radishes. Now we are starting to comment to ourselves on all the above strange things. Our risotto (pea with bacon and glazed onions was ok good but the size was shocking-about one cup (appetizer). We asked for more of the pretzel rye bread to add to volume and were told that they were out (it was 6PM) When asked, we told the waiter how surprised we were at the serving size-and asked if that was typical of usual servings on regular Menu. He returned with an extra dessert "from the chef-who had noticed some of the servings were too skimpy" This was not the solution-extra dessert that we did not eat. By the time we were eating our prix fix dessert were were unhappy with so many lame excuses. It is a pretty place and empty dishes were not removed until both of us finished (quickly). Ice bucket and stopper for Prosecco were provided promptly after we asked for them.

Pretty Good food, fancy place, 12/11/2009

This hotel is really nice, they did a good job building it. You need someone staying there to let you go up on the top floor to see the view which is nice looking uptown. We had a catered event in a meeting room there which I assume is the same kitchen. Food was good. Service was good. Some of the plates were worried more about presentation than filling you up but overall pretty good. Park in the public structure just south of the hotel. I'll have to go try the bar area another time, the decor in there was really nice.

Some of the ratings on Open Table were good, but now I would have to say they must have been there on a great night. Thursday night I would expect more than one other table occupied. Calamari appetizer , soggy and disappointing. Salad lackluster, and my wife's AhiTuna was not fresh, my Buccotini mussels were mediocre. What's it mean when you can whip a dinner at home better????? Now it makes sense why the dining room was empty! The food was average, and for the price and location I would expect something much better. Chain restaurant put out a better dinner than this place. Sad since the atmosphere could be a nice hopping place. Well I guess it's back to our regular places like CaDario, Emilios and Piatti........

Tre Cool

We were curious about the lounge so stopped in for a Friday cocktail after work. Hint: They've got $6 Mojitos for Happy Hour--and they were yummy! We loved the atmosphere--"sophisticated-chic", I'd call it. Relaxing and a very pleasant environment in which to unwind. It felt like being on vacation.....

Lousy Bartender.
Reviewer: Allison from Santa Barbara, CA
We've tried this place a number of times hoping that the rave reviews we've heard are true. So far, not so good. The fish tacos last time I had them were far from fresh, the salad was way too salty and the "margarita" I had tonight consisted of not more than an ounce of tequila on the rocks with a splash of Roses lime juice instead of fresh lime as I asked - I wondered where the other half of my cocktail was but dared not ask because the bartender had [as usual] a huffy/defensive/unfriendly demeanor. We won't be back. Next time it's Hungry Cat or Blue Agave. The only thing they know how to do here is uncork a wine bottle! Now that's skill.

We love this bar
Reviewer: Sabrina K from Santa Barbara, CA
They did a beautiful job with the renovation of this place. The bar is warm and inviting and you can either be in the "noisy area" or there is an open room tucked away on the side that has tables for more privacy. They have a great selection of martinis and the bartenders and waitresses have been good. We come here mainly for pre-dinner drinks. We tried the restaurant once. The food was just so-so but the seating areas are beautiful. Besides the menu being very basic and simple, the place radiates warmth and is comforting to the eyes and senses.

Great Happy Hour!

My friends and I go about once a week to Coast for happy hour, I love it! The sliders are amazing as is the tortilla soup. The service is good...and great wines for happy hour! Love the new bar placement, makes such a difference.

Office Lunch
Reviewer: Steven from Goleta
We heard mixed reviews about Coast so we decided to find out for ourselves. There were 10 of us in the party and not one complaint. The service was attentive and friendly. The appetizers were very good, especially the calamari and bruchetta. All the entrees were served in a timely manner and thoroughly enjoyed. The bread used on the crab sandwiches was so light and buttery. We all will be back soon for lunch and dinner.
