A real treat!!, 7/4/2010

Down to earth good food and good people! Simple and very satisfying. Not a bad thing on the menu, good prices, good portions, can't say enough you have to try it for yourself. It's the only way to fully appreciate the quality. My paticular Favorite is the Huevos Ranceros special with the Cile Verde on top. Highly reccommend it!! Also the biscuits and Gravy are the best I ever tasted. Enjoy!

A neighborhood favorite, 3/4/2010

There is nothing extraordinary about the place. The food and service here have been consistently good for many, many years though and the prices are among the most reasonable in town. It's a standard kinda locals diner. I've been eating here since the late seventies and it seems that the only dramatic change over that time has been the name. Actually, I take that back! I noticed that their flour tortillas changed recently and they are now a better, more authentic type than you get most places. The latest owner, Steve, has upgraded the place some. There is now an ADA accessible bathroom... the old one was very small and was through their little kitchen area. He's also added european style coffee facilities.

Best breakfast in town, hands down., 2/20/2010

This place has always been a favorite and we've always had great food and service here. But today it was at an even higher level. They cooked up the old hash browns with the bell peppers and onions underneath. We had the scramble with diced bacon, spinach and cheese that was delicious plus home made sausage patty, salsa, biscuits, gravy and eggs...all this for less than $20. Exceptional food with friendly, sincere service! Thanks!

One of the best!, 1/10/2010

Been here a couple times. Service and food has always been great. Now I come back hoping the "fiesta chicken" will be on the specials that day. (its some sort of lean, marinated spicy chicken) that they mix with eggs for an omelet, or my favorite, --the breakfast burrito--. Add some hashbrowns and some avocado and you have the best, leanest, lightest, breakfast burrito in town. Staff is always great and the patio is relaxing. great local spot. A+

best chicken-fried steak in the county
Reviewer: Dan Montello from Santa Barbara, CA
Many excellent breakfast and lunch dishes, with a real locals feel. It serves the tastiest and lightest chicken-fried steak with sausage gravy in town, probably in the county. I have tried almost 10 others in town, and Steve's wins hands down. Try it and tell me I'm wrong..

Fresh food served with a smile!

Really good breakfasts and the staff always remembers what you like. Skip the other place down the road and come here instead!

Calm, excellent food, personal service.

pretty awesome, relaxed, friendly place
Reviewer: sunil from Santa Barbara, CA
steve's is the kind of place you didn't think could be real. it's like going to the town in the andy griffith show.... steve is usually there, and he's a friendly, unpretentious guy. his staff is the same, they work hard because they seem to really care. the food is great. the view is great. no rush. i guess this all rubs off on the customers because strangers just end up talking to each other. i usually leave pretty happy. life is good. ...i wish more things were as straightforward and beautiful as steve's. you should go.

Stay open later!!!
Reviewer: Rory from Santa Barbara
We have been meaning to try this place, but had no idea it was mostly breakfast. Showed up at 1:00p.m. on a Sunday and found out on Sunday, they only serve breakfast (and they closed at 1:00). But they offered to make me a sanwich, and it was really good. The people with me really liked their breakfasts too. The waitpersons were super sweet and fun. I know "Steve" probably wants a life, but we don't want him to have one, we want him to stay open later so we can eat there more often....

Great food/service
Reviewer: Peter from Santa Barbara, CA
I have eaten here at least a half dozen times for breakfast. The surroundings are simple and dare I say unimpressive. The food however is very good. I would not ordinarily order a pork chop for breakfast, but was encouraged by the waitress the other day. Wow, that was excellent, thick and juicy, nicely seasoned and served with scrambled eggs, a bowl of fruit (strawberries and watermelon) and a toasted english muffin. Top it off with a latte and we're talking some good eats! I have never found it crowded and the quality of the food and service is much better than any of its competition (cajun kitchen for example).
