Superb Dinning at John Dunn Dinning Room, 10/18/2009
Reviewer: Margaret from Goleta
Great dinner Fri, eve, in the John Dunn Dining Room at City College. Really astounded at the wonderful ingredients, creativeness, and preparation of all courses. It was a very busy evening for them, but the wait staff pulled together, seeing that all were attended to very professionally. Often not the case in Santa Barbara restaurants. It was wonderful to be able to try different foods not often seen at Santa Barbara area restaurants plus so many locally grown ingredients. Stand outs were the perfectly grilled lamb, buffalo tri tip, seafood sausage, local red rock crab salad, roasted butternut and spinach salad, shrimp wontons. All entrees had nice vegie accompaniments. Pear tarte tatin a great seasonal dessert,(reminded me of fall in France), plum and apple upside down cake with a yummy honey mousse was fabulous. Also the ice cream and sorbets made in house. First three courses are accompanied with wine pairings. All for $40 including tax and gratuity. We will be back soon.

True Gourmet Great Value , 9/14/2009

Went to SBCC's Gourmet Dining Room last week for dinner. If you truly want a food adventure paired with excellent wines all for a $40 value...you don't want to miss out on this opportunity. The menu is so imaginative, fresh and creative. Don't go there having preconceived thoughts of how dishes should be prepared...because you will be pleasantly surprised! The most attentive service we have had in years. One more excellent thing our own SBCC is doing for it's students and as locals, we benefit. Don't forget to call ahead for reservations.

A Real Treat

I really loved the experience I had when I ate at the gourmet dining room. The student server was a sweetheart, and she answered all our questions. She even arranged for us to get to talk to the head chef, who was so nice and accommodating. For $35/person you get 4 courses, wine with every course. You get to choose from 4 or so options each for Cold Appetizer, Hot Appetizer, Entree and Dessert. The presentation was very chic and the flavors very very good. A totally fun adventure. My guest and I ordered different things so we could switch halfway through, thus getting to try 8 dishes instead of four. I can't wait to go back!
